I recently grabbed a ton of Plasticard and went ham. The first thing I tried had to be a Lucius Pattern warhound but thats a thread for another day.

This is how far I've got with some not-so-perfect papercraft templates. Still a lot of work to do but I thought I'd share for some c&c.

Yes I know the canopy isnt straight, its not glued on yet. Still have to add the cockpit internals and the pilot. My main issues atm are the side thrusters which i cannot imagine a way to build them.
I guess i could use thrusters from old eldar grav tanks but I dont have any. The other thing i cannot get right are the hoses (fuel lines?) on the engine. I tried lego hoses but they just dont look right so
I ripped them off again (hence the superglue left behind I still have to remove )

I also am very aware that I still have to do a nasty amount of filling, filing and detailing as well as adding some additional layers to the body and wings to give that thing some depth. I'm still in the "rough shape" phase.

Please be aware I'm not looking to 100% copy the FW-Thunderbolt. I guess there should be enought variety throughout the Imperium to justify my little tweaks and changes

C&C are very welcome.

Better than 84.3% of the scratch builds I've seen. Keep at it.

The only thing I can suggest is maybe some rivets along where the panels join.

Other than that minor detail this scratchbuild is fantastic. Make sure to show it off again once it's painted.

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)

2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

Wargaming's no fun when you have a plan!

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far, away...

Looks great, how long did it take to get this far? Did you work from the Eli Patoroch templates or freeform it?

Reminds me that I need to get back to my T-Bolt scratchbuild and finish it off one of these days...

It actually didnt take me that long to get this far. Started working on it about a month ago. I work from some random papercraft templates I found on the webz

As an owner of a Thunderbolt, I'd have to say that's a damn handsome looking start. Once it's detailed up it'll look great.

WANT!

I love Imperial flyers and I would love to build a Lightning too. Is there a way I can convince you to send me a copy of that file?

The file is still very much in its infancy.. and it's not going to remotely resemble a regular Lightning. It has the numbers and the measurements that has the proper characteristics like wing area, fuselage measurements and such, but the whole overall look is based on the MiG-21.
