So how do you guys keep your brushes in good shape ?
For it seems that just cleaning them with water isn't nearly enough to keep them from curling and splitting.

Splitting generally happens when paint gets to the ferrule (the metal bit holding the bristles) Don’t let that happen. Don’t overload the brush with paint, and rinse it out periodically during long sessions.

Get some brush soap. I have a puck of Master’s Brush Cleaner, but there are a few different types and brands. Hair brushes are just like your hair. You use shampoo to keep that in decent shape; brush soap does the same thing.
