Do you think GW will release any starter army boxes again? Not battleforces but discounted armies. Such as the 1500pt CSM box I got in 2007 for 200 USD. Came as a completely ready army, with troops, elites, HQ. Fast attack, and hvy spt. Thoughts? I see the strikeforces and what not on GW site, but they are just fluffed armies, no discount or anything like the old battleforces and what not.

Nope. You're more likely to see the game rescaled around the $85 getting-started kits.

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

Yea but those are mostly useless, gameplay wise. The IG one seems to be around 100-120 USD worth of models for 85, so not a bad deal, but still.

GW has done those types of army boxes from time to time. The latest ones are, ironically, the "Battle Forces" from Christmas.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

The Start Collecting boxes are an okay starting point, but I wish there were Battleforces meant to add on to those.

Now that formations have probably gone the way of the dodo, the Start Collecting boxes are probably significantly less useful anyway.

You could look into the box sets like burning of prospero, or the betrayal at calth. Serious discount there. They often put out some good mega deals around the holidays as well. And sometimes at odd times like codex releases.

Good rule of thumb is that if it’s in it’s own box, there is savings to be had.

Yea, I have recently noticed the 30k stuff. Something I am SUPER interested in. Not the 30k game, but the models, thinking about making my entire 1st Company of my homebrew chapter out of 30k models (Mk3/4 and Cata Termies)

Everyone says formations are going away, but that's not what's happening, they are getting changed into 30k style rites of war. It's a verbal slight of hand (they don't call them formations so they are not formations) that I find super annoying. Anyway, you can be fairly certain that the start collecting boxes will have fit into faction specific FoCs, and will gain some advantage from that.

Constantly being negative doesn't make you seem erudite, it just makes you look like a curmudgeon.

So, I haven't followed 40k very close over most of 7E. I remember unbound being super popular for casual play in 6E, is it still popular or have formations been a big part of 7E for tourney and casual? Also, what are the specific benefits of formations. They seem to just be fluff armies with special bonuses
