You have to vote it into existence first!

Democracy XD

Someone linked me this (apparently Norway is combining to administrative districts and there's a vote for what the new name should be or something?) and I find it hilarious. Is Mordor a word that means something in Norwegian, or is this a straight up LotR reference?

If this gets through it would seem that, in fact, one may simply walk into Mordor.

We were once so close to heaven, St. Peter came out and gave us medals; declaring us "The nicest of the damned".

This remember me when the British Armada did something similar to name a new boat, and the biggest spanish-speaking forum on the internet did a trolling campaing to name it "Blas de Lezo". The british goverment censured that option

I have give my vote to Mordor!

This explains why casual democracy is often a bad thing. The government after that farce had to use the name Boaty McBoatface for something and gave the name to a submersible carried by the RRS Sir David Attenborough.

Just think about the moral impact in the enemy if Boaty McBoatface destroys something in a war. It will be worth it!

Considering Boaty McBoatface is a scientific submarine doing research in the Antarctic, I think their surprise would be quite understandable.

Still waiting for Godot.

The RN used to name a lot of ships after enemy ships that had been captured, such as Temeraire, Orion, but there were too many of them.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

Gonna be really awkward when someone sinks it, and then really epic when the final round through the gun barrel destroys the enemy battleship!

Problem here is that now this poll has gone viral or every Norwegian who looks at it either seriously or with intention to add to the joke, there will be many non-Norwegians who know nothing about the meaning ad context of the Norwegian place names but have heard of Mordor and will be happy to vote for lulz as they dont live in the same country.

At this stage the organisers should abandon the poll.

I don't think the poll is going to end up being official otherwise it wouldn't be accessible by non Norwegian IPs.

It's hosted on a newspaper's website (at least I think it's a newspaper...) so for all I know cause I can't read Norweagian and its weird zero 'o's it might just be something the paper is doing.

Doesn't diminish that it should still totally be called Mordor XD

Ahah thanks that was just too funny ^^.

Well, there is a place called Gondar in Ethiopia. Maybe Aragon can become king of that?

They only go to the Hotel California. Or Philadelphia. Which is pretty much the same as Mordor.
