So, I'm really wanting to start a SM army and I'm currently thinking of which first founding legion I want to draw my gene-seed from, and heres what I'm thinking: I really love Grey Knights (they are my first army) and I know their lore is that their gene-seed is a pure stock (I believe its hinted, if not outright confirmed, that they got their gene-seed directly from the emperor instead of a primarch) would it break the lore too much if I have my army draw their gene seed from the grey knights? I was thinking that an Inquisitor could be the manipulator behind the founding of my chapter and was able to secretly obtain the GK gene-seed and passed it along to a High Lord without his knowing to be used for the new chapter. Does this break the lore too much?

Not at all. The Exorcists chapter are drawn from the grey knights themselves. So it has happened once before.

Yea I had read about them (the exorcists) but they were made to fight daemons, weren't they? This chapter is gonna be just plain SM that will fight Xenos and what not... also, im not planning to come right out and say that that is where they draw their gene-seed from

It seems a bit lore-iffy, but honestly, it also seems cool. So long as you don't act all Marty Stue with your Marines, who cares?

You could also do the whole "It's hinted at, but never confirmed" if you're really worried.

Biggest thing, though, is that this is a hobby about toy soldiers. Have fun with it!

The only bit that smells off to me is the Inquisitor nabbing Grey Knight gene-seed without anyone finding out about it and making some kind of switch such that the High Lords were unaware of it. I'd suggest some sort of experiment or other officially-sanctioned project instead, it doesn't need to be common knowledge/boasted about but if you're going to go with "they're descended from the Grey Knights but nobody knows about it except this one Inquisitor..." there isn't that much point.

As an Exorcist enthusiast they are more likely to fight non-daemonic threats than Grey Knights. They are also not technically a successor chapter of the Grey Knights though they claim to be. They are stock standard space Marines and their chapter tactics from Forge World is that they can choose another chapter's chaper tactics.

They are know to fight any Xenos race.

If you have to ask, then you're a heretic.

If you don't question whether or not you're a heretic, you're also probably a heretic.

personally I find it doubtful they're really a grey knights sucessor.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two
