I'm starting a tyranid army, so I'm looking for advice on paint scheme.

I'd vote for something thats simple and quick to paint:

is what I went with, looks decent (I think), but is very quick to apply.

Spray one colour, brush the second and third, was, drybrush and some simple layering.

You can, and some do, go nuts with Tyranids, but for a horde type army its worth finding something you can do quickly without wanting to kill yourself doing it

I don't play Tyranids, but they're one of those armies that looks really cool in pretty much anything.

Leopard's look great (post up more pics, I'd love to see that scheme on the whole army), and I've seen other people bring really colourful Nids that look really cool too.

There's a dude who posted a heap of pics of his Nids on this site who were really bright pink with a very dark ink wash and they looked delicious.

Here's one of my guys. It's not quick, but I think it's worth it.

I prefer more natural colours. It's a good idea to decide on their environment first and work backwards from there.
Not a huge fan of overly bright Nids as they tend to look like someone vomited skittles onto the table.

Everyone: No.

Nice looking model! I think i'll start with the tyranid swarm box, so I'll probably take all year if I'm gonna be this detailed on troops. How did you do the spots on the upper part of the flesh, below the citin armour?

My personal idea for a tyranid swarm scheme is that their bodies are mode of stone and their carapace out of crystal, it gives a cool effect!

Don't have my pictures, sorry

I agree, but I'm a bit ambivalent. I like the natural look, but I also want them to stand out I was thinking a dark purple with a pink highlight For the chitin. But I'm not sure about the flesh colour. If I'm doing the purple and pink, I'll make a jungle type base that matches. Some aquarium plants for jungle brush in similar colour tones.

I think pale red & off-white represents them best.

I did a test model that was a blue wash over white with black carapace and some ochre brown/yellow blotting. It looked nice but in the end i went with the "rule of cool" and covered their skin with Tamiya Clear red so they look like they just exploded out of someone's body.

I did mine this way too. Spray black, dry brush a bit lighter for some detail. Hit the armour and claws with some tan/yellow and then again with a lighter yellow. Pick out some detail, eyes, tentacles, brains in purple and spray varnish for that shiny slimey look.
I did different yellow patterns on the armour of gaunts with different weapons to tell them apart. Its quick and striking and it works really well.
