So it looks like it's pretty hard to actually block los since miniatures block and not bases. I was wondering if everyone allows units to shoot through friendly units etc or do you play units block?

I play with Units blocking. I mean why else would you try to gain the high ground?

I play units blocking if the unit blocking is dense enough.

5-man infantry unit placed in a line 1 inch apart? Not blocking

20-man infantry unit placed in 3-4 ranks base to base? Blocking.

We play it as per the rules, which is to say most things can see through most other things. Unfortunately.

Looking for a balanced Age of Sigmar? Tired of your favorite unit gathering dust because it's bad in Matched Play? Want a discount for not bringing the best possible weapon option? Try Project Points Cost!

PPC points are easily swapped out with those of Matched Play and include all models, unit upgrades, battalions, and terrain warscrolls!

We play with the volume of the base to the models head ( or back if hunched over) blocking LOS.

Same. Anything else is "not fair". As a result, we almost never have to check for LOS because hardly anything blocks it.

You're not using enough terrain then!

Its not the amount of terrain. Something like a forest doesn't block line of sight in any meaningful way; you can almost always see at least some part of the target between the trees/leaves/whatnot. Unless a location has really dense terrain, that pretty much leaves only tall, solid obstacles like buildings to actually block line of sight.

Yep for terrain to block line of sight you need to model custom stuff for the most part.

And I have some custom forest terrain that truly blocks line of sight, but a lot of people consider it "cheating" to use it because GW forests don't block line of sight, so no forests should block line of sight.

and to answer the question we use the rules as written. Otherwise people pitch a fit.

However I like the realm of fire for my settings. Because the rules as written have a time of war for the realm of fire...where all terrain features block line of sight because of the smoke. No houserules required.

Basically this. I don't think the problem is terrain is that too many terrain pieces have gaps that you can see through or windows or things like that where even if you have a model there it's easy for somebody to draw a line of sight to them and shoot. You pretty much have to use large buildings that completely block and then hide a character behind it if you want to actually skirt line of sight issues and stop them being shot at, and even then it often does not work because all it takes is a model moving at an angle and they can still see you even behind the building. I have even seen people argue that their archers should be able to shoot past the building because they would fire up an angle and have the arrow rain down

Also that is very clever about the realm of Fire

I have them roll a D6 for each piece and on a 6 its mysterious. Otherwise they tend to not use it at all.

Yeah I boarded up my building windows. Took hell for that too for "cheating" lol.

Not the group as a whole, just a few people inside the group that are very vocal that believe that no houserules should exist and if its not within GHB's matched play section then it shouldn't exist at all. (to include time of war "garbage extra silly rules")
