GAME 3: RAID – GUARD vs INQUISITION

FORCES: SKWAAAARK’s Dead Men consisted of Sergeant Stabbity (carapace, camo), a few veterans (lasguns, camo), and two plasmagunners (carapace, camo, red-dots).

The enemy force was an Inqisitor with a plasma pistol and stormshield, two Crusaders with stormbolters and stormshields, a sniper, a Catachan grenadier, a Catachan close-combat soldier, and a Tallarn.

PRE-BATTLE: The mission is The Raid.

The Inquisition is on defense. The objective is placed in the center of the map with the two crusaders right on top of it and the sniper perched in a ruin overlooking it. The Inquisitor covers the southern approach, and the Catachan close-combat soldier covers the southwest. The grenadier and Tallarn are kept in reserve.

The Dead Men set up in cover on the south side. Trooper Spector sets up out of LOS behind a building on the southwest, and the rest of the team hides in a ruined building near the Inquisitor.

BATTLE: Trooper Spector shoots and injures the patrolling Catachan, following up with a silent melee kill. Meanwhile, the rest of the Dead Men jump the Inquisitor, counting on a quick kill.

Unfortunately, the Inquisitor is able to stand his ground and sound the alarm. The sniper picks off Spector…
Spoiler:

…and the specialists come bounding around the corner, firing wild volleys from their stormbolters. When the dust clears, the Inquisitor and half the Dead Men are out of action. Only plasmagunner Rockso and Troopers Notch and Ducky are still in the fight, and Ducky is broken. Rockso and Notch retreat eastward while firing upon the advancing specialists, but are unable to pierce their shields.
Spoiler:

One specialist charges into melee with the cowering Ducky and impales himself on Ducky’s bayonet.

The three surviving Dead Men continue to move eastward. Inquisitorial reinforcements - the Catachan grenadier and the Tallarn - attempt to pincer the Dead Men by attacking from the northwest while the specialist moves in from the southwest, but the Tallarn goes down to plasma fire and the Catachan’s grenade is a dud.
Spoiler:

The Dead Men are now in a position to power through the Catachan and strike the objective, but they fail their bottle test and flee the field, taking two captives with them.

AFTERMATH: There are no casualties on either side, as all captives are ransomed. Sergeant Stabbity and plasmagunner Skinner are enraged at the defeat and become Frenzied, while Spector’s experience operating on his own taught him to be an Ammo Hound.

GAME 4: HIT & RUN – GUARD vs ORKS

FORCES: The ork force consists of Boss Grodskol (boss nob with big choppa), Dakkagor (spanna boy with big shoota), and a large mob of shoota boyz and slugga/choppa yoofs.
Spoiler:

PRE-BATTLE: The mission is Hit & Run, with orks on defense. They set their promethium tank up on the top floor corner of a large ruin, guarded by their spanna boy. Their loot cache is on the ground floor of the ruin guarded by a (notably dramatic) boy named Squigsnik, and the boss and one other boy patrol the catwalk running along the ruin’s middle floor.
Spoiler:

The Dead Men’s goal is to seize the ork loot. They set up their plasmaguns in a smaller ruin just south of the orks’ position. Their two troopers are hiding behind a nearby fountain, ready to make a dash for the objective once the way is clear.
Spoiler:

BATTLE: Dakkagor notices the Dead Men and opens fire before they can act, wounding one plasmagunner and pinning the other. The Boss descends to ground level while the other Boy moves toward the southern wing of the ruin to surround the Dead Men’s position.

The Dead Men return fire, striking the boyz and the Spanna. The boy on the second floor plummets to the ground and lands in a bloody heap right in front of the Boss, who breaks and hides behind a rock. The Dead Men’s lasgunners cautiously advance towards their objective, splitting their fire between the survivors at the ruin and the mob of reinforcements charging down from the north.
Spoiler:

Just when it appears victory is within the Dead Men’s reach, the Boss and multiple injured orks near the Guard position make a simultaneous recovery and a well-placed stikkbomb pinned the team down for a round.
Spoiler:

With ammo running perilously low and the mob of choppa-wielding maniacs nearly upon them, the Dead Men pulled out.

AFTERMATH: There were no Guard casualties. The Dead Men decided they’d need better gear if they were to continue operating against superior numbers, so they learned to be Scavengers.
