GAME 7: PHANTOM OF THE PROMETHIUM SPRAWL – VINDICARE ASSASSIN vs INQUISITION
FORCES: The Dead Men’s previous battle against Harlequins left them with just four functioning fighters…
…so they decided to take some time off to recover and rearm. They expended some of their promethium stockpile to call for an assassin of the Vindicare Temple.
The assassin’s target would be the (presumably rogue) Inquisitor the Dead Men had fought in their third battle. The Inquisitor was recovering from his injuries in the basement of a damaged Mechanicus tower. Two Crusaders with plasma pistols and stormshields stood guard outside the basement entrance, while a sniper kept watch over the area from the top of the structure.
Three other soldiers were on patrol outside the target area.
BATTLE: The Vindicare assassin approached from the east.
His first order of business was to take down the enemy sniper, but his shots missed completely. He wasted so much time trying to take down the sniper that the Crusaders had gotten close enough to possibly detect him. He switched to shieldbreaker ammo and fired on the nearest Crusader. This time the assassin was able to hit his target, but failed to kill him. The injured Crusader sounded the alarm.
The Vindicare assassin and the enemy sniper traded fire. This time the Vindicare’s aim was true, and the sniper went down.
The two Crusaders advanced from the west, striking their foe with plasma bolts in spite of the assassin’s superhuman reflexes. Meanwhile, Inquisitorial reinforcements arrived from the north and south, cutting off the assassin’s escape routes. The assassin fired on the Catachan soldier advancing from the south, but only dealt a flesh wound.
With enemy forces nearly upon him, the assassin decided to make a break for higher ground, which would afford him a better chance of dealing with the enemy one at a time. Unfortunately for the Vindicare, the enemy sniper recovered from his injury and fired a toxic round into the assassin which rendered him comatose.
A Crusader ascended to the helpless assassin’s position and slit his throat.
AFTERMATH: The victorious Inquisitorial forces initiated a second sniper. The Dead Men who hired the assassin replenished their ranks.
GAME 8: SCAVENGERS – GUARD vs ORKS
FORCES: The Kasrkin Dead Men are made up of Sergeant Stabbity (plasma pistol, power sword), three plasmagunners (red-dot/telescopic sights), and six veteran troopers (hellguns with red-dot/telescopic sights). All wear carapace armour and camo gear.
This week the Dead Men would be going up against Boss Grodskol and his ork mob (whose numbers had increased since their battle in week 2).
PRE-BATTLE: The battle would take place in another war-ravaged industrial zone dominated by a long and winding platform.
Both teams would be trying to recover a large rock with bizarre properties unearthed by the Mechanicus during an archaeological dig. Unfortunately a fearsome monster had chased away the tech-priests before they could fully analyze the rock. The two forces will have to face this monster as well as each other.
The orks deployed to the north of the objective. Boss Grodskol led a large group of boyz and yoofs at the center of the DZ. Two pairs of boyz manned towers at the northeast and northwest corners.
The more dangerous pair was in the northeast tower. Spanna boy Dakkagor stood ready to rain fire down on the approaches to the objective, while his partner stood ready to assist him and to ward off attacks from the monster.
Most of the Dead Men deployed on the elevated platform in the southeast corner – troopers up front, the Sergeant and his plasma team in the back.
Troopers Mule and Jane deployed away from the main group at ground level.
Once the Dead Men had fully deployed, the ever-dramatic Squigsnik raced ahead of his comrades. He scaled the cargo containers to the main platform, just a stone’s throw away from the objective.
BATTLE: The Kasrkin troopers rush forward, distracting the ork tower gunners from firing upon the plasmagunners. Dakkagor and his big shoota quickly prove to be the biggest threat, and draw hellgun fire up to the east tower.
Plasmagunners neutralize both Squigsnik and the east tower. Meanwhile, Jane rushes to the objective. Mule moves alone to a platform to the west of the main group in order to draw the monster away from the objective. He fires on the western gun tower, wounding and scattering the boyz within, but the monster pounces and takes Mule out of action.
The Orks ascend a stack of cargo containers and reach the platform, but las- and plasma fire from the Dead Men pins them in a choke point. Many plummet to the ground below, but few stay down for long.
Jane drags the objective back along the platform towards the DZ.
The orks are slowed by the withering hail of pinning fire, but for every greenskin that falls to the ground, two more take his place.
The orks finally push through the killzone to reach slugga range and the guardsmen begin to take casualties, but the Dead Men hold the line until Jane escapes with the objective.
AFTERMATH: The mysterious rock turned out to be of little worth, and the Dead Men claimed only a single promethium cache for their efforts. Trooper Mule’s injuries are severe, but he is expected to recover sometime next week.
Ork casualties are slightly heavier, but word of the brutal scrap has spread throughout the sprawl, drawing more orks to Boss Grodskol’s mob.
Games 9 (Inquisition) and 10 (Orks) can be found here.
Game 11 (Orks) can be found here.
