Painting a Lukas the Trickster for a friend, he wants the Pelt of the Dopprelgangrel to be a highlight of the paintjob - codex describes it as "chameleonic skin, making it virtually impossible for foes to land a telling blow."
My own got a zebra fur but he wants something more "dazzling" I'm stumped on how to paint this thing.
Any help would be appreciated!

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

Glitter mixed with paint, or glittery nail polish maybe

If you're looking for a very metallic / glittery paint option (one that's water based), I found this stuff at Michaels called "Viva Flussiges Edelmetall" that comes in some trippy colors - it's sort of two colors in one depending on how the light hits it.

Site is in German (I think), but it gives an idea of the colors available. Thus far the paint has worked as easily as of the other Citadel water-based paints.

For the chameleon style camo - you could always paint a grid (hexagonal or otherwise) to make it look like the cloak or whatever is a interweave of tiny displays that can change their color to whatever surrounding is appropriate. I'm (attempting to) do this for my sniper scouts, but made the mistake of painting the grid on first... would likely be far easier to color it all first with whatever abstract colors you want, then grid it & highlight the perimeter of some grids make it look like little individual screens reflecting.

True Dazzle Camo isn't overly hard to do, because it's all very clean-lined geometric angles, designed primarily to disrupt the outline and provide false highlights/shadows. It was mostly used on vehicles and ships, to make it harder to determine the direction of travel with optical equipment.

Yeah, historical "razzle dazzle" stuff is relatively simple (and awesome looking0. However for your model, I'm not sure. Perhaps use a flip-flop greasy paint? One of those purple/green/silver types.

How about an oil based effect?

Something similar to when there is a thin film of oil on a puddle of water, that sort of thing?

*EDIT*

I've attached some pictures

That sort of thing?

Yeah, that's why mine got the zebra treatment. But like I said, he wants something more and I'm not sure what "more" really means. I'm looking for any reason he might not be after tighter patterns, tighter patterns in a fur cloak is really going to be painful. If nothing else I'm looking for a dazzle camuflage that might work better than zebra stripes so it seems more.

Gathering the Informations.

You could try using patterning similar to a giraffe's hide.

Nice, I'll start working on some test attempts.
I'll pop some results up.

Arashen, Segmentum Pacificus

I'm envisioning something almost crystalline, or cosmic in nature. Almost obsidian base color with lighter speckles at random...

All the advice was great, so in the end I wound up trying all of them and wound up with a mess that looked pretty good and was actually easily repeated.
