Is this for 8th ? Since if so it would probably take a lot longer just since so many players are looking at every unit as they go, rather than have ideas for it.

for 7 i guess i will avg it out :O

It's for writing lists right now, so 7th.

Obviously everyone will slow down a little on 8th, since everything is new, but I expect times to be pretty similar.

Times will be all over the place for your avg person, and i think is likely dependent on a lot of outside influence.
for 7th, my time would avg out in the 30ish just due to my chaos headaches

Note that, for list building, I don't mean all the pregame stuff (Warlord Trait, psychic powers, Gifts of Mutation) I just mean the actual list building itself, if that's what you meant.

I'm one of those odd ducks who have to answer "it depends". If I'm writing a list to start building my army into, then it can take me a while because I'm still deciding where to take things. If I have an army already established and know generally what I want to run then it's just a matter of plugging stuff in up to the points limit. And if it's for a tournament then I usually start considering the local meta and what I might expect to see so it takes longer than pick up games, but not as long as it does when starting a new army.

I did not, i just think that the poll will end up with a bunch of very loose data that ends up useless.

Eh, this isn't exactly for scientific research. I'm fine with data that's "Good enough".

Oh thats a shame

it took me all of 10 minutes to knock out a 8th list

and since i haven't written one for 7th for over a year id say infinity.

I'll spend as long as a week on one list.
Usually one list becomes 5 different lists then I decide which one and pack my models. I need about 2 weeks prep time to be ready for a game. Our games are usually about 10000 points lately and I take as large an army as I can.
I hate list building, it's monotonous work . Armybuilder made it much smoother. But I still don't enjoy the time I have to put into it.
AoS lists take just a few minuets. My first 2000 point 8th edition list took.. 3 days to get it 90% done, just a little bit more to mess with.

I just use an online list builder: http://webapplications-webroster.rhcloud.com/rc/web/#!/rosterCreator#%2FrosterCreator

Gradually getting updated to 8th. Usually takes me 5-10 minutes depending on the size of the list.

30+ minutes for me; I always find myself switching things up and I write mine by hand...

I chose 30 minutes, because I typically work up several versions of a list and try to get as close to the points limit as possible while getting the most out of my options.

When I last played, about 15-30 minutes or so.

When starting a new army, it will take longer to come up with a new list as the points values aren't quite memorized in my head. But in 7th Edition, I only ever played my Iron Hands Marines with a Knight to support them on occasion. I purposefully started using the same units and upgrades over and over, basically lumping up my army into "modules" for different tasks and rolesm such as my Land Speeder with TML that I can field up to 3 of, or my 3 Vindicators which can be fieled in different combinations, my Bike Squads and Scout Snipers squads are so many points depending on 5 or 10 man units, and I take my HQs from a list of 4 or 5 options.

For 8th Edition? It will take a while until I get everything memorized. I haven't looked at the leaks too closely yet, because I prefer the book in hand, but I imagine it will be about the same once I get going with my armies again.

I could bash one out in under 5 if I had a limited selection of models to work with.

From scratch, at home, probably 5 to 10.

Makes for a full do of warhammer. We don't play very often so it's worth in. Sadly that still only half my ork collection at best. I haven't played more than 10 to 15 games under 2000 point in 7th.
Orks do much better in larger games.

On moon miranda.

It generally takes me just a couple minutes to write a list, most of the time is spent thinking of what I want to include, working out the pricing and whatnot is generally rather quick.

For me it varies from a few seconds (those ideas rarely end well though ) to a couple of minutes (up to 10 at most if I am building a competitive list and try very hard to cram as much as possible within the points limit). Usually list building is really quick because I want to be WYSIWYG so my lists are determined by what models I have available. Most of my lists are usually just variations of the same.

It does take a lot longer if I am building a list with models I do not have, but I only do that when I start a new army completely from scratch. Usually I do not buy models according to list but rather to whatever I think would be cool right now (which usually changes from minute to minute, I am really bad at sticking with something).

I had it down to 3-5 when I was using a 7e Codex I'd practiced and knew well, but in 8th it's up towards 10 minutes when I'm actually building a list and not getting sidetracked by all the things I didn't know were there.

Depends on if I have an idea or not. If I have an idea it takes about 5 - 10 minutes. If I'm just making new stuff it might be 10 to 30 minutes.
