I play Grey Knights and many variations of Marine, and I would recommend marine at this stage until the Knights get a new codex.

well for space Marines right now it's just "New Primarch" but I'd take a looksie at the new Primaris Marines in person and see if that tickles your fancy, your local GW shop may have some for you to look at. mine did

Does force composition allow for making a SM army completely out of primaris marines?

I play Iyanden so naturally, suggest them.
I've played one game of 8th edition with an Iyanden and felt that they were awfully durable.

To my knowledge, yes.

Yes, though they don't have much variety at this point. However, that will probably be rectified soon, as they start releasing new units for them. I expect first 8e codex to be primaris/space marine codex.
Also bear in mind that you can pretty freely mix and match within the 'grand alliance' meaning that you can freely put all imperial units in same detachment with each other (similarly you can put all the different kinds of eldar in detachment with each other.)

Can you share what your army is like?
I remember Iyanden used to be very tough to make viable, especially if you wanted to go Wraithguard heavy... would be SUPER excited if that has changed. I think enough things are different now that I'm not really able to get a good grasp on what play is like, even with the full rules available. Thanks! Very helpful. Also, from my understanding - currently the only way to get more Primaris Marines is to buy multiples of the starter set?

Ebay will soon be loaded with them. Most likely they will also be the first releases of this edition.

Standing with my enemies, hung on my horns. With haste and reverie, killing with charm. I play, I'm sick and tame, drawing the hordes. I wait, and show the lame, the meaning of harm. The skulls beneath my feet, like feathers in sand. I graze among the graves, a feeling of peace.

Expect to have a new Marine codex relatively soon that will likely provide more Primaris options. I like to use Hoard O' Bits and similar sites for getting individual squads from the starter kit, but ebay and the marketplace here are also good options!

I think it could work. Wraithguard are slow and short-ranged enough that you're still going to want some transports, but Wraithlords have gotten enough of a price drop (and gotten slightly faster) that using them as pseudo-War Walkers with swords is more cost-effective than it's been in any Eldar book I remember.
