With 8th looking like a good time to be a roughrider fan I decided i'd like to make some. Oh boy no kits. Luckily I found some conversion kits by the lovelyfokls at victoria miniatures I dig but I still need horses, preferably from a gw range as it helps maintain the neede percentage gw parts as I play at a games workshop store.
Any kits I could csnnibalize?

I just went through this exact same thing.
I'm using Victoria parts to make female riders, I decided to get horses from GW.
They come from the "Freeguild Pistoliers" set, I guess for Warhammer Fantasy.
In a box of 5 you get one rearing horse and two each of the galloping horses.

I did the exact same thing years back for my Rough Riders, but with Cadian torsos and heads and Bretonnian lances. I don't have pictures though...

Empire Pistoliers/Outriders ("Freeguild" now for some bizzare and inexplicable reason) are almost certainly the best place to go for Rough Rider conversions on horses; all your other options are loaded down with barding (Knights, Dragon Princes), skinny and oddly decorated (Glade Riders), or not actually horses (Cold Ones).
You also wouldn't be too far off if you just took the Outrider models and cannibalized some lance arms for them; they do look a tad medieval, but so do Scions, so add in some more high-tech trappings (backpacks with batteries, laspistols, grenades...) and you're pretty close. Though it sounds like you guys have the riders sorted already.

I'm going to use the heads and torsos from the Freeguild riders to make unique looking Inquisitorial acolytes.

Because there is now effectively a "Fighter's Guild" of trained veteran fighters that call themselves the "Freeguild".

I used fantasy Cold One Riders when I made mine, along with various Cadian bits. I'm looking forward to the new Death Riders FW rules, as they would probably be a good fit.

Somewhere I found a 28mm Camel that I thought would make a unique mount, but it only came in one pose so I decided against 10 of them.
With the Pistoliers horses I'm going to paint them several different colors to enhance the variety between the 3 poses.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |
