Why the Death Jesters? I keep seeing them but just not seeing the use out of them.

Never argue with an idiot you just lower yourself to their level.

a few reasons..

1. Really cheap way to get an extra Command Point by using the Vanguard detachment (since I'm taking a solitaire for sure). You only need 1 HQ, 2 jesters and the solitaire.
2. They can target characters directly with a weapon that hits better than a sniper rifle. Great for knocking out the weaker buff characters.
3. By attacking a unit (don't even have to hit or wound!), if that unit loses models to morale, you pick the first one that flees. I haven't looked through all armies yet to see what items they have that woudl be a great threat to harlies....but flamers would be out if I can pick one to go first!
4. And finally....they're death jesters, so just cool as hell.

Very nice and smart catch on the detachment bonus! I'll be using that, definitely.

It seems you have settled on Embraces being the best option for all troupes, and caresses for the Masters. Care to elaborate on that (so that I might share in your wisdom). And.. just out of curiosity, do you model them all with embraces or just proxy?

Thanks that makes perfect sense!

Hey, could you explain what it all does?

I've read the Xenos 1 index a few times over and don't get what the hype is about.

the embraces are cheap and have great AP altering stats. With 4 attacks base, rerolling wounds if the troupe master is about and -3 AP, they should do well. I would like to have some kisses for multi-wound models, but 14pts a piece..ouch.

I'm going to play a few test games first, but the speed is incredible..with Rising Crescendo, charging transports...I think they will hit hard.

Currently I have a mix of weapons and I'm going to play them all to see what I think works, but only have 3 transports at the moment.

I was just watching a battle report where the Troupe Master's wound re-roll made even un-upgraded Players surprisingly dangerous. That has convinced me to run Embraces all the way on my regular players.

Maybe run a Kiss on the Troupe Masters? I really want to see more feedback on the voidweavers? seems taking a couple of Ravagers may be a better choice?

Been Around the Block

I played against a Harlequin army this past weekend. Here's our discussion:

We found that the Shadowweaver was MVP due to being able to make the troops and skyweavers move (and advance!) twice. This gave the foot and bikes units a massive 30"+ (50"+ with the bikes!) charge threat range. The blanket aura from the Shadowseer let to the awesome statement of "you need fives to WOUND MY HARLEQUINS", which would be unheard of in any prior edition.

We decided that while the transports protected the Harlelquins, with Shadowseer suppor the transports actually slowed them down from getting into combat (!!)

DJ being able to choose which models are picked off on failed morale checks was a strong ability - if they even lost one model you get to choose if the Sergeant or the Heavy Weapon dies.

Keeping the Solitaire back is crtical because he's such a threat he'll be shot to death quickly.

Nice info I have not seen any real battle reports for Harlies yet. After trying to play them in 7th it is really exciting to play them now! Dark eldar are a great mix too with Harlies.

This looks very much like something i'm thinking about running. My big hang up is how I want to equip my Troupes/Troupe Master... It will require snapping a bunch of Troupers arms off and such so i'm kind of paralyzed with indecision. Please let us know how it goes! Very curious your thoughts on the Caress and the Fusion pistols.

My thoughts on caress and fusion is that they are going after high T multi wound models. A caress wounds on 5s instead of 6s. So after fusion shots, charge and mop up.

What does the void weaver unit do? I know they have 3 guns, and the prismatic cannon is a jack of all trades, but you have to get with in 24... Would swapping out for two ravagers be just as good if not better?

Why would I want Dark Eldar in my Harlequin list? If I went mixed Ynnari, sure.

Because Rising Cresendo has little impact on shooting units. Because Harlequins should have access to more units than they currently do. Because there is no benefit to having soley Harlequin key words when Aeldari should do. Because almost any aeldari vehicle can be turned into a Harlequin one with just a paint job and gluing on a few of those masks around the hull.

I'd recommend Ravagers as well, Dark Lances will likely be more useful than the prismatic cannon against the things the Harlies can't handle themselves.

Good point on using a Harlequin themed paint job, I've been wanting to do a wraithlord that way too.

I want to play Harlequins. Not Drukhari or Craftworld. This is like asking a Blood Angels player 'why they aren't using Space Wolf units when that would obviously be more optimal' - it's because they don't want to play another army, they want to play this one.

Besides, fusion pistol Troupes look absolutely lethal at taking down big multi-wound models.

@Robin5t

Fluff wise, Harlequins, craftworld eldar and pirates, tend to bunch up in groups.

You could always convert a ravager into a 'Harlequin ravager' and keep it in the same detachment - best of both worlds.

A debate-able interpretation of the fluff, but also irrelevant. Some of us are not here to play another army dressed as the army we actually want to play.

I personally think your putting way too much credit on a keyword. Harlequins fluff wise have access to all the technology as Craftworld or Dark Eldar, they had Singular Jetbikes (great reavers), they had marionettes (Talosi/Wraith Lords) and there Death Jesters had Bright Lances.

All the power to you if you want to limit yourself to a keyword, but with the right Paint job and some conversion work you can vastly increase the Harlequin roster. Avatar of the laughing God (Yncarne)? Sky Dancers arial troupe ( Scourges), Mimes as an individual infiltrator unit (mandrakes).

As for your list as is, I'm not sure but might the Kiss be the best weapon for the Master due to his rerolls. 3 or 4 sounds at -1 might be hella scary for a lot of characters, characters that mobile single models like the Master can easily isolate due to flipbelts.

RobinT, I'm on your side. I want to play Ninja-clowns. Not Dark Eldar. Not Eldar. I think the Harlequins will be brutal as a stand alone force this edition as well.

To each their own, we are going to see Corsairs soon as well, so keeping your options open is always a good idea!

Why embrace over caress on the troops? I figure wounding marines on the 3+ would be worth the 3 more points?
