Hello, friends.
I'm painting the occasional Mantis Warrior as a break from my Dark Eldar, but the problem is that my Gretchin Green is running a little low. I'd like to replace it! Unfortunately, neither Vallejo's Russian Uniform nor
GW's Deathworld Forest are matches. They come pretty close to
each other, which is very nice for them, but Gretchin Green is significantly yellower and brighter. Let me show you:
L-R: Deathworld Forest (
GW), Gretchin Green (
OOP GW), Russian Uniform WW2 (Vallejo), Brown Violet (Vallejo), Green Brown (Vallejo), Green Grey (Vallejo)
The
paint compatibility chart lists Vallejo Heavy Khaki (149) as a match, but I'm a bit hesitant to buy a second pot of a paint to replace the ol' Gretchin and have it not work - I have quite enough muddy green/browns as it is and it feels like a waste. I don't suppose any of you have any comparison shots I could look at, do you? Or any knowledge of suitable greens in other ranges I could try and find?
I've only painted a few green Mantises, so I suppose I could always strip them back and find a new chapter to slowly accumulate or a different green recipe, but I'd really rather not.
Here's another comparison shot, with the paints in the background. The Mantis on the left is finished (Gretchin Green > GG + Khaki mix > Khaki edge), the one on the right has been mostly done in Deathworld Forest, highlighted with DF + Khaki mix. The light washes him out a bit, but you can see that the Deathworld green is noticeably duller and... greener? I guess? Is the word? My colour eyesight isn't great.
Anyway, any help you fine folks can offer is very appreciated.
