Hello, friends.

I'm painting the occasional Mantis Warrior as a break from my Dark Eldar, but the problem is that my Gretchin Green is running a little low. I'd like to replace it! Unfortunately, neither Vallejo's Russian Uniform nor GW's Deathworld Forest are matches. They come pretty close to each other, which is very nice for them, but Gretchin Green is significantly yellower and brighter. Let me show you:

L-R: Deathworld Forest (GW), Gretchin Green (OOP GW), Russian Uniform WW2 (Vallejo), Brown Violet (Vallejo), Green Brown (Vallejo), Green Grey (Vallejo)

The paint compatibility chart lists Vallejo Heavy Khaki (149) as a match, but I'm a bit hesitant to buy a second pot of a paint to replace the ol' Gretchin and have it not work - I have quite enough muddy green/browns as it is and it feels like a waste. I don't suppose any of you have any comparison shots I could look at, do you? Or any knowledge of suitable greens in other ranges I could try and find?

I've only painted a few green Mantises, so I suppose I could always strip them back and find a new chapter to slowly accumulate or a different green recipe, but I'd really rather not.

Here's another comparison shot, with the paints in the background. The Mantis on the left is finished (Gretchin Green > GG + Khaki mix > Khaki edge), the one on the right has been mostly done in Deathworld Forest, highlighted with DF + Khaki mix. The light washes him out a bit, but you can see that the Deathworld green is noticeably duller and... greener? I guess? Is the word? My colour eyesight isn't great.

Anyway, any help you fine folks can offer is very appreciated.

Truth be told, I think I have an extra pot of Gretchin Green lying around that I could spare for you if it survives shipping from the States to Australia...

I saw with eyes then young, and this is my testament.

!! That would be exceedingly generous of you. I can send you bits in exchange, or Paypal you money.

No worries at all! It looks like I've got two essentially full pots of the stuff and I'll only be needing one for highlight work and the like, so the other is yours if you can help me cover the shipping costs! PM me so I can get your info and get the ball rolling.

Done! Thanks very much.

Despite this nice person's generosity, I'd still like to accept clever advice from smart people for the ~future.

There is a Vallejo colour you should check out called...(runs to painting desk)...Afrika Korps Tankcrew which may be pretty close.

I don't have Gretchin Green so I can't compare, but its markedly lighter than some of the others.

Coat d'arms make what was literally the old gw range from the hex pot era. Their goblin green is an exact match as they used to be gw's suppliers.

Edit- I see you said Gretchin green not goblin green. My mistake!

Thanks! I'll bear it in mind.

Ha, yeah, but this is still helpful to know. Less helpful than it would have been back in the day, before I largely resigned myself to the 'new' paints, but it's still cool to know. Do they also match the old 'ink' range?
