Warning From Magnus? Not Listening!

Now, I typically play a modified version of 40k (I use 30k's only troops can score rule, for example) and I was wondering if anyone has any house rules for 8th edition yet. I, for example, will most likely not use points for summoned units, like I do in AoS, keep my "only troops can score" rule and i might even let characters join units. Has anyone else tweaked the new rules yet?

It will probably be necessary to put in more involved terrain rules, facings and fire arcs, if we want to have any semblance of tactics in the game beyond smashing models into each other and seeing who fails more saves.

Abolish "Rule of one" (or make it scalable at least) and use 7TH cover system (cover is PER model and still applies even if a single model of a unit is out of it)

The good old ones from 7th. I don't care about Mysterious Objectives, even less now that Flyers are gimped in terms of survivability. If the Obj Card is unattainable, toss it immediately. The CP version of tossing it is nice for a 'I can't get this Objective this game and just want a new one now' but some need to be gotten rid of because they just can't work. Some sort of scaling for Psychic Power limitations needs to come into play. 1 use per 1k points, so 2k allows the same non-Smite power be used twice or three times at 3k, still with different Psykers though. But my group plays ITC tournaments regularly so my house rules have to meet theirs so we can continue playing the same game.

Maybe tweak or get rid of the advance roll since I might not like how fast the game is.
No conga line bs for keeping buffs.
Terrain rules might need some tweaking allthough the advanced rules for ruins for example are good enough.

Obviously. There hasn't been game i haven't house rule and never will be. Well okay small chance somebody makes game i'm 1000 happy but odds are better to win lottery twice in a row. And then game isn't 100% like opponent wants so houserules come anyway

-1 Toughness for the Back

Nothing at first - I'll play the game at least a dozen times to get a good feel for it.
So far I expect to be adding some additional terrain rules for things like rivers.
Maybe weapon fire-arcs on vehicles.

I don't like the facing idea, but if you are going to do it I think -1 save on the read (or whatever weaker sides) would be better than toughness. -1 T has very little impact in most cases you will still
Be wounded on 3+ by high strength and 5+ by low strength. You will really only be changing the 4+ point for most vehicles. Another possibility would be a +1 to wound rolls made against that facing. Both that option and the save option effect the results against most/all weapons, not just a few.

I'm going to wait until I've played a dozen or so games of the new system before I try to houserule anything.
My area is strongly OPPOSED to houseruling. All it does is create gamer-politics and anger, so it has to be done as little as possible.

Terrain, cover per model not unit.
Vehicles can always move and fire normally regardless of cc.

If anything, restrict it to 5 game turns and discard objective cards you can't score. Pretty happy with how it plays otherwise.

Templates and blasts, replace scatter with "place the blast marker over an area/point, roll to-hit for each model under that point. If you center over a model, roll an extra d3 hits against that model's unit". Flamers are not anti aircraft guns.
Overwatch is a conscious decision rather than a free round of shooting vs assault. -1 BS penalty instead of snapshot, works with blast and flamers too.
Non-infantry models measure Line of Fire from their weapons. This would include Jetbikes, Artillery, etc. Flank vs Overwatch.
Remove Rule of 1 for powers.
Defender allocates casualties from models in range and LOS.
Vehicles get "Ram" instead of attacks (make an attack rolling on 6 against each enemy model in the front arc. If those models survive, the individual models must be moved as though withdrawing (they may act as normal in their turn). Vehicles can fire flamer weapons in CC. Fire Points are still a thing.

Thats already in the rules isnt it? A shooting model has to have line of sight on a target.

None at all.
I want to be able to go anywhere in my area and play anyone I meet and all be aware of the same rule set. I think this is important for pick up games, as well as tournaments.
I also find it amusing that is is likely that most of the people here haven't played a single game of 8th yet and already want to change it. Get over yourselves and try it out for 10 or so games and see if you are not just being whiny for no reason.

Those are some pretty good ideas. I may have to try them (especially the Flamer ones).

I feel like it's very unlikely that people won't be picking and choosing the parts they like from "3 ways to play" to get the game they enjoy.
Also, RAW the game just doesn't work. You have to house rule since the RAW language is so broken.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Line of sight is drawn from the weapon, not the model.
Imperial Guard Platoon Commanders are HQ, not Elite.
You can only apply wounds to models that are visible to the firing unit; any additional are lost.
When using the Death from the Skies advanced rules, flyers that are in Hover mode can not shoot in the Dogfight phase, but may be targeted by other Flyers as normal.

My area doesn't tend to bother with house ruling, but I definitely am not going to be playing against some of the extreme horde netlists that are starting to surface (hundreds of brimstone horrors, Green Tide, Conscripts etc). No fun for anyone involved.
