So I'm an Ork Mek head. And I heard that dreanoughts were buffed, but part of me feels that it wasn't the case for the Ork deff dreads. We still have shoddy BS, and while it seems that we will wreck stuff in melee, getting there is still a drag. And diff dreads still seem rather pricey. Which is why I have a few questions for you guys out there.
1) Do You think that deffdreads are viable in 8th?
2) How would you use them in an Ork (preferably dredbash) army?

A couple of thoughts I've had about Dreads in 8th:
-There's nice flexibility in the ability to take three for one Force Org slot, while still allowing them to move independently in game.
-The ability to shoot Assault weapons while Advancing means that guns aren't totally wasted when you're moving up the field.
-A Mek situated behind the dreads is protected by the difficulty of targeting characters, meaning he has more opportunities to heal damage.
-No more vehicle damage table means that lucky shots won't blow up or immobilize a dread. Or at least they need to be much luckier in the amount of wounds they roll.
I think if you're already playing a dread heavy list they're worth a slot. Definitely keep them within a KFF - either a Mek to repair them, or a Morkanaut to provide particularly vicious bubble wrap for the big guy. I like the idea of them with Big Shootas but haven't seriously considered how their other weapon options play in 8th.

Yeah I know meka and orkanauts work, but I'm just hoping that I don't have to play only orkanauts (meka dreads, like other FW, tend to see less play in my LGS)
While assault weapons can be shot while moving, hitting on a 6+ still seems kinda useless. I might go with more melee and skorchas myself (just like older editions)
I just wish there was a way to send them up field faster, yannow?

I have some thoughts, but take it with a grain of salt, as I don't have the dread/kan models to try this out.
Dreads can no longer be immobilized. Now you can replace as many arms for CCWs and never risk being turned into a statue. This is awesome.
Dreads can be taken in "squads" that split up after deployment. This cuts down on your number of "drops" which, if done right, can give you a really good chance of going first. Definitely a big plus.
If you want the option for dakka: As previously pointed out, Dreads can advance and still shoot assault weapons at -1 to hit. You can put scorchas on dreads. Scorchas hit automatically. Run forth, advance, and make your enemies do the burny dance.
Have dreads/kans surrounding a big mek with KFF and grot oiler. He repairs/protects them, they keep him safe. You can easily do this battleforged by using the "Spear Head" detachment (at least that's what I think it's called)

I'm sure dreads are playable now. Just not sure they're great. But at the very worst they're hundreeds of times better than in 5-th, 6-th and 7-th. Especially for walker wall. They supplement naughts and kanz nicely. And even if you have a footslogging horde, you migh find a helping hand klaw of a deff dread to be the Gork-send. Especially when you face something unkikillable like a knight or a landraider. Or you need to reliably punch through that rhino. Ain't so easy now, trust me.
