What is hopefully a quick question here- Are Aspiring Champs able to still take the Power Fist or Power Weapon/Combi weapon combo? My reading of how the Champion's equipment list on page 11 of index chaos is laid out makes it impossible to take such a combo. Am I reading this wrong or is this guy now carrying an illegal combo of weapons?

Now I understand that options change between editions etc. etc. but I'm just curious here, mainly as all of mine are modelled that way.

You start with a bolt pistol and bolter.

You swap that.. oh wait that combination is no longer legal.. What?

It's unclear. You can parse the sentence "may replace his bolt pistol and boltgun with items from the Champion Equipment list." either to mean he has to scrap both("bolt pistol and boltgun" being considered one unit), then take items from the list, or you can parse it to mean you can replace the bolt pistol for items from the list, and the boltgun for items on the list (with the sentence actually meaning "may replace his bolt pistol with items from the Champion Equipment list and boltgun with items from the Champion Equipment list." and having been ambiguously contracted).

It is unclear and will require official GW clarification/errata.

I believe this specific issue confusion has to due with the wording in the Chaos Space Marine wargear list, not the Unit listing. The first part of the Champion Wargear states the model may take two of the items from the first list containing the pistol and melee weapon options. The second part states "Alternatively, a model may take one item from the following list:" with the second list containing the Combi-weapon options.

The way it's parsed, you can take either 2 melee/pistol options OR 1 Bolter/Combi selection, meaning you can't take Fist/Axe/Sword/etc. AND a Combi-weapon.

does that mean then you could swap the bolt pistol for a combi bolter but keep your stock bolter since you already have it

I'm not altering any of mine just yet since I have a feeling the intent was to mean that instead of taking both from the first list, you can take 1 from each (ie, the intent is to not allow two Combi-weapons) and that it'll have a different wording in the actual Codex.

Course I'm also expecting to lose my Fist/Force Sword Sorc again, too, so not all good...
