I expected a price hike, as it comes with every release. It's annoying but most of the time bearable as we want the cool new figures, but I'm not sure I can dish out the money needed for 8th it seems. I'm not sure how much they cost elsewhere, but in AUS the Captain and Librarian are $60 EACH. Even most Stormcast heroes are $40-$50, and they're huge and fancy.
If single characters of the new ranges are as much as a 10-man tactical box, I don't know how much other units are going to cost... and I don't know how it'll be easily collectable without literally pushing everyone to eBay, even more than now. I wanted to get Death Guard, but they're more detailed than Primaris so how are they going to stack up against the Primaris prices so far?

Anyone else who want the new armies worried by this?

Going by the UK site, some pre-existing kits have stayed the same...

Tactical Marines - £25
Terminators - £28
Land Raider - £45

Others have gone up...

Eldar Guardians - £22 (was £18)
Windriders - £25 (was £21, iirc)

But I can't find Primaris anythings listed on the UK GW site. Dunno if that's just me...

GW seems to have arbitrarily selected some things they they aren't releasing new boxes for and just game them an extra £4 to the cost for no reason, and left others.

*sigh* One step forward, three steps back. Looks like I'm released from my oath after all.

I was really hoping Rountree would finally start lowering prices to reasonable amounts (by which I mean 2 dollars for horde infantry, 4 for elite infantry, 6 for heavy infantry, 40 for small monsters and so forth). Especially characters. Before it was only economical to convert HQs; you still spend more money in total since you gotta buy the other 4 guys. Nowadays you're saving actual money by converting them since the character alone costs more than the squad!

Tbh I haven't bought from GW in years, I buy from ebay for like 25% off or something close to that every time.

20 USD plus 7-9% California sales tax for the command dice at GW, vs 15 dollars flat with free shipping on ebay? The choice is made without having any second thoughts.

£22.50 each. They learned nothing.

If that trend continues for any other releases, I will be reconsidering my position on whether 40k is worth it, despite the new life of 8e.

Fun lookie, would you like two models for £45, or eleven and a Dreadnought for £50?

https://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Space-Marine-Primaris-Heroes-2017 - £45

Jesus. £22.50? Did they not learn from the amount of folk who flipped out over the £18 bubble of characters they had for a while?

I'm also concerned about their new approach to rules - it's great that they've got...some sort of free rules there but also concerning that they simple state 'the rules to field this are supplied with the model.'

I do hope we end up seeing Codex releases and not just this approach. Because I'd like to not actually have to buy every new kit to find out if I can actually field my older units.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also, stealth price hikes - basic CSM squad now £23.50. Not a huge hike but it's now more expensive than the SW pack and the SM tactical squad is £1.50 more and a far better set of sprues overall for what they actually contain.

The CSM kit should not be priced like that. Its components are horrible. It's dated and badly in need of an update and it doesn't have nearly half as much as its nearest counterparts...

Automatically Appended Next Post:
And one more thing....

I love how the CSM Land Raider is £1 more expensive than the Imperial Land Raider because of the extra sprue.

At least it's not as much as joke as the Renegade Knight being £2 more expensive than a normal Knight Warden because of this gakky transfer sheet.

Another australian here. I almost didnt believe you when you said 60 dollars for one individual model. Checked it straight away. Holy gak that pricing is absolutely rediculous. Makes me incredibly angry.

They work out to cost more than the bloody primarch.
Is it just their price or have other kits prices been made even more rediculous

At least I don't have to worry about being tempted to get any Primaris models, as GW finally smiled and gave me a middle finger with these prices. The two Primaris figures together are more expensive than any of the 10-pack squads of Stormcast Eternals, lol.

I think someone posted that the price of a single Primaris character is the price of the current Land Raider back when it was originally released. That's hilarious.

And another one bites the dust....

I bought the rules & starter set - I quite like the figures, an they'll fit in my existing armies. No complaints there.

£22.50 for ONE standard sized figure? Bye...

£22.50 for a single infantry figure. That's nose bleed territory.

New GW, smells a lot like OLD GW.

If anything the random price hikes on old kits is even more worrying.

it's the quiet ones you have to look out for. Their the ones that change the world, the loud ones just take the credit for it.

I appreciate the fact that the Primaris are larger, they are quality sculpts and as characters it's likely most people will only buy 1. However, £22.50 is really pushing it.

Maybe when they release the codexes, it'll turn out to be worth 225 points?

Obviously GW has demonstrated that people will buy this stuff at this price level. Until people learn to control themselves, this isn't going to change. GW knows they can get away with this so long as the basic troopers you need in decent numbers is affordable (thus the Start Collecting boxes). It makes the character models their version of fountain soda and french fries (where the real profits are).

People without deep pockets will do what they've always done; learn to convert models. The Dark Imperium Primaris characters look pretty easy to convert to almost any kind of character, provided you have some old Space Marine bits laying around. The only thing that might be a little bit tricky is a Librarian's hood, unless you convert the Gravis Model (chop off power fist and replace with regular forearm, presto, Librarian).

Those price tags are ridiculous. 30 euro for 1 small character model? Is it made out of gold? I remember one little dwarf character costing 20 euro and i thought that was nuts that was 2 years ago. And now this...

Not sure what you mean by 'and now this'. It's part of the same trend. Individual character models are poorly priced, and have been for years.

Old Enginseer- $11.50. (Still for sale!)
Newer plastic Enginseer- $30

Efficiency is the highest virtue.

Yeah, but these are about 30-50% more expensive than existing Space Marine characters (at least the ones in power armor). And those are already stupid prices.

I've been working my way back in 40k with 8th edition coming out... I've got DE and Ork armies that I'm trying to finally flesh out. I was thinking it'd be fun to have Primaris to complete the trio, but if this is the pricing for their upcoming releases then I'll probably eschew getting them and just stick to my xenos.
