I have started to look at a new army and was wondering in terms of rules, are Death Korps worth it.

- how do they compare to imperial guard

- do they have any benefits over normal imperial guard

DKOK win by rule of cool.
They are an awesome looking army....
However a pure DKOK army are simply guard with less options and NO FRFSRF. Their morale bonus vs shooting is nice and their semi assault centric profile/orders are cute. Deathriders are decent and shotgun engineers are great HOWEVER guard still has better options and can still take a detachment with dkok units if they want. So the entire difference between regiments is very homogenated.
If you like the look of DKOK buy them and just use Astra militarum rules. If you want to use a specific list with death riders or engineers with shotguns just add them to your detachment there is no issue this edition.

I have a feeling some competitive lists will have dkok units such as combat engineers and scions and guard conscript blobs so I don't expect people to play regiments from a set homeworld.

Im gonna try out:

10 Engineers with shotguns
1 Marshall with Plasmapistol
1 Scratchbuild DKOK-Yarick

All together in a DKOK-Chimera

gungo covered it fairly well. You may want to wait until the FAQ for the Imperial Guard FW book comes out though, there are some really odd things about the DKoK army list right now that I am hoping were oversights.

Like you can take engineers but not a Hades Breaching Drill and some of the artillery units can't be considered DKoK. But in the end taking them as normal IG is the better bet and will be less confusing for your opponent.
