Any thoughts here? Pistols can be fired in CC, but I am thinking if I am relying on that things have gone sideways.

So what is the rules question here?

Why Combiflamer and not Combiplasma?

Yeah, when i read the small novel that is the Death Guard unit options and think about resolving the attacks from a melee-oriented min size death guard squad, the thing that springs to mind is "Accessible!"

I think they both have their place.

Combi flamers have the nice perk that the flamer side doesn’t care about the -1 penalty to hit the other combis have when firing both halves. They also work better in overwatch.

Now that plasma pistols are reasonably priced and safer, I’m trying to work more into my lists. Although for twice the price, the c-plasma is more then twice as good. Not as iconic and cool looking though.

As I tend to be very tight with the points for wargear, I’ll often choose the less expensive option, even when I could get something nicer by sinking more points into the unit. It’s the boys before toys philosophy. I’d rather put more units down, then having fewer, more elite ones. YMMV.

Combi-flamers seem best suited to models with BS4+ (or worse).

I'd take a combi-weapon on the Sergeant that matches whatever special weapons are in his accompanying squad. Make the squad more effective at performing the specific battlefield task you're asking it to do.

That's what I was thinking too as I have Flamers for my specials in the squads.

Just wasn't sure if being able to use the plasma pistol in cc outweighed the flames being available for overwatch.

Nah, on a regular flamer-kitted Tactical Squad, I think the combi-flamer is going to be far more useful than the pistol.

My tactical send up operating mostly as chaff positioned forward, and for that role the flamer is vastly superior, as I expect them to be charged
