So I have a question about certificates for titans, is there any use for them besides being able to use them in-shop.

So far on Ebay I see lot of titan for sales in parts but without certificates, they say there fordgeworld but i guess they wouldnt be?
Are they all fakes?

Also isnt the certificate just a piece of A4 paper that is easy to copy, what proof is there really?

They are a thicker coloured card rather than just paper. A titan with a certificate is likely genuine, and thus worth more second hand, than a potential cheap recast that I wouldn't pay over 20% retail for.

There probably isn't too much real proof available. I wouldn't buy a titan or Forgeworld kit second hand, but I wouldn't buy one at their ridiculous prices either...so I guess I'm fine!

There are a few ways to spot a possible fake, but most of them are by no means guaranteed

1) The price is incredibly low. I've seen some rare casts (like the Death Rider Commissar) go for about 1/6 of what they are worth.
2) The seller's country is usually Eastern Europe (Poland, Russia), China or other low-wage countries.
3) The colour is seriously off compared to normal Forge World. I actually have a fake Death Rider Commissar which I hoped was real when I bought it (the price was about £30 and the seller didn't sell other Warhammer items) and the actual resin is much more tan compared to the grey of the real mounted Commissar I also have. Now, not all resin colour is the same and the image quality is sometimes terrible, but any colour apart from grey will likely be fake.

Recasts are often actually quite good compared to the real deal, so a good cast is in no way a certain sign of fakes.

I would never buy any titan from eBay, but if I were to, I would ask for a certificate or other proof of purchase. I'd also add that the release agent from the fake Commissar actually smelled a lot like fish, and I had to thoroughly clean it just to remove the smell from my flat.

I'm awful at reading private messages, so just reply to the threads I'm visiting.

It's kind of a neat fluff thing, matching the fluff of each titan/superheavy (the old Baneblade-class tanks used to have them too) having its serial number recorded on Mars and logging its glorious deeds, but it's of pretty minimal practical value. I have a couple from Baneblades that are just printed on normal paper, so it's not like they'd be hard to duplicate if you're trying to sell a fake. And there's no system to verify the number or ownership with GW if someone shows you a certificate. So not everyone bothers to keep it, and its absence shouldn't be considered a sign of a recast.

This is not necessarily true. A lot of older FW stuff was cast in various colors of resin, and that includes some off-color models I bought directly from FW. But with a newer kit it's probably a sign of a recast.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Do you have to show a member of staff your certificate to play with the model instore?

If they ask to see your cert - tell them to feth off. Seriously.

I've got a warhound that's >10 years old. I don't even have the cert anymore - it was a stupid piece of paper and didn't have any real relevance for using the model. Why keep it, let alone carry it? Only with the mass influx of recast (some of which are better than the originals...sad) did that issue even come up.

Ironically, the only person to ever take issue with my model was some random dude at a FLGS. We all told him to feth off. Don't be that guy, and don't take crap from that guy in return.

As a former GW Till Monkey, the only time I asked someone to see their Warhound Certificates was because I'd had quite enough of his compulsive lying and decided to call him out on it.

Not even all titans come with a certificate if your order an eldar titan from fw you won't get one. So in reality the paper is just a display thing.

I still have my cert for Chaos Warhound Titan #005. Still in box. Unpainted, Unassembled, Still on Sprues. Sigh.

As far as the colour of the resin goes, I've had some beige models, but not for a while - the last ones I got were Epic Warhounds and aircraft. Still, the resin bio-titan in the display case in the Forge World shop at Warhammer world has a beige torso (and all the legs, spines, etc are grey).
