Subject: Anyone know of WW1 looking cultists for Death Guard?
|

So, I love the WW1 style of the Death Guard, how they're all about infantry and artillery and trench warfare, etc. I'd love to have WW1 style cultists fighting alongside them, but I'm not sure what models to use. I'd preferably like to use citadel minis, and I was considering the Death Korps models, but I'm worried they're too recognisable as the steel willed bros of the Imperium.
Could I get away with using the Death Korps models but painting them in my DG colours (green coats and brass/metal armour covered in verdigris/rust)?
Does anyone have any better ideas? I wasn't overly fond of the renegade upgrade kits, but maybe they look better in person.
Cheers guys

Personally I feel like both don't really look nurgle related and DKoK would be way to iconic out of the box.
So how about putting nurgle bits/cutist bits on them and doing a bit nurgly green stuffing?
And maybe go visit a local tabletop store and look around there at other tabletop sections and maybe you'll find something great although you said you'd prefer Citadel minis...

Wargames Exclusive do some lovely "Krieg Zombies".
You'd maybe just need to swap some arms to give them weapons. Automatically Appended Next Post: But I think DKoK would work as cultists in a Death Guard Army. If you wanted, you could do little conversions (arm swaps from plague bearers or poxwalkers for example) to differentiate them just enough from regular Imperial Kriegsmen.

If they exist, and you're up for some model work -- the older Wargames Factory plastic shocktroopers would be pretty excellent. They're not amazing casts, but they're the aesthetic you're looking for. Out of print now though - so tough to find.

Those Puppets War zombies look amazing, but I won't be able to play at my local GW store with non-GW models unfortunately :/
The other suggestions of using Krieg bodies and changing their arms also sounds promising
Thanks guys for the quick replies!

Some cultists I converted with some quick head and arm swaps. If you want more trench warfare like minis I'd suggest using DKoK.

You could pick up the old Warzone boxed set from Prince August and get 40 Imperial WWI looking guys. Bauhaus figs might work as well. They also have character/weapons Imperial figs in metal. They used to sell the figures separately, but apparently not any more.

Anvil Industries and Victoria Miniatures have the best WWI trencher style models out there, both very modular too so you can convert to your hearts content. Anvil are a UK company Vicky M;s are Ausie. I find the prices of Vicky M's to be too high in the UK (she sells in US $'s and the exchange is crap) but they're good mini's. I got some taster parts when I picked up a load of heads from her. Only experience I have with Anvil is some robed marine legs I got but they seem too short for my liking but their trencher guardsmen look great. Am tempted to pick up some myself.

Tiberius - in most cases, they won't care too much if you've got a unit of converted models. Those Krieg Zombies do look a lot like converted FW Death Korps models.
Another option you might consider is to take pox walkers or any other kind of decent zombie unit from GW, and wander your way over to Anvil Industries. The key is MOSTLY GW and most stores won't care. So we take the zombies, and we swap on Anvil heads.
Now how you go further about cultist-mode is up to you - the Pox Walkers mostly have torsos big enough (go through EBay you can get the Dark Imperium ones separate) to support regular Guardsman arms. Anvil doesn't have bare arms yet, but if you look at Mad Robot they do, as do others. Convert the arms on, give them more actual shooting weapons, they'd look like plague infested cultists.

Oh these dudes are cool as! I could probably chuck some las guns into their hands, but I don't think I'd change anything else. Super Death Guard looking too. This is a good idea. I could possibly grab some of my DKoK kits and maybe add some of the Pox Walker bits to them. Change the heads, put the horns growing out of them, etc.
