Hey there I'm working on background for my Imperial Guard army, some of my thoughts so far:
I already painted up some models, if you're interested you can find them here:
https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/732420.page

I think a good origin planet could be Betalis III, which has already a good backstory with an eldar invasion and drafts small amounts of IG regiments from time to time. It's a vast Mining/Ice-World with scarse settlements all around.

The Regiment is named "Steppenjäger" which means steppe-hunters (referring to the german army military branch of "Jägertruppe" which is light motorized infantry specialized in mountain/woodland or settlement environments).

I still need to make my mind up on the Regiment number since I'm not really sure how many regiments such a low-populated planet can muster. Probably something along the lines 52nd, would the regiment be named after the Betalis System (which only has 2 inhabited planets) or after Betalis III especially? Betalis III 52nd "Steppenjäger" or Betalis 52nd "Steppenjäger"?

The military HQ of the planet is located at Port Ryira. I think the doctrine could be a fast response troop who specializes in air mobility and scouting. This could origin from fighting against the eldar, so the regiment won't contain alot of heavy wehicles or artillery. Also a mobile PDF is in need due to the low density of population and the large tundra/steppe/mountains seperating them.

What do you think so far? Am I overlooking something? Do you have any source of inspiration I could look into?

They sound really cool, and you did a good job with the painting as well.
Most the time I don't like the Cadian models but you have some good bits swaps and some excellent basing there.

As it is a mining world, they can pay part of their tithe in minerals. Therefore, I wouldn't have thought there would be tonnes of different regiments unlike places like Krieg and Necromundia.
The numbering could be based on the number of new regiments raised from that world over its whole history rather than the number in service at any one time. I rather like the "52nd Betalisi Steppenjager" myself.

The only inspiration I can think to look into would be the Finnish ski troops that gave the USSR a bloody nose in the Winter war of 1939. It would be cool if the regiment included a few veteran 'Gebirgstruppe' with Skis on their backs!

Yeah these guys sound absolutely kickass great work!

Agreed that they'd probably have to pay at least part of their tithe with minerals or other products from mining, and '52nd Betalisi Steppenjager' sounds really cool

Great idea with leaning on Finnish soldiers from the Winter War too

Love the idea of mobile units honed from fighting the Eldar. Good worldbuilding that, and it's always refreshing seeing people treat the Eldar like the enemies they actually are rather than just a taxi service

Oh, and I've come up with a semi-expanded Shadow War idea and need some feedback! https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/726439.page

Lastly I contribute to a blog too! http://objectivesecured.blogspot.co.uk/ Check it out! It's not just me

Looks great to me.

His pattern of returning alive after being declared dead occurred often enough during Cain's career that the Munitorum made a special ruling that Ciaphas Cain is to never be considered dead, despite evidence to the contrary.
