How are nids doing in this edition? thinking out getting a new army, would anyone help me with what are really strong armies to get? or some of the best armies?

Nids are really good in this edition. Swarms are very viable.

Our troops can now arrive via trygon tunnels on turn 1. Swarmlord's ability allows you to double-move a unit.
Mawlocs are still good.
Biovores hand out mortal wounds, and Exocrines shoot twice if they remain stationary.
Many units are significantly improved.

Nottingham (yay!)

T-fexes also shoot twice if stationary.

Venomthropes seem really good, they now give enemy shooting -1 to hit, which is good against Astartes & Eldar, great against Guard, brilliant against Orks.

Genestealer Cult gives access to entirety of IG Codex.

Swarmlord double move can be given to any Tyranid unit - and, unlike Chaos equivalent, can't be denied. First turn charge with 20 Genestealers is horrific.

This is probably one of the best times to start 40k as nothing is overtly powerful or overtly underpowered. There are some outliers, but don't let the forum hysteria fool you; any perceived weakness is marginal at best. Pick what appeals to you the most, as 40k has a known history for armies going up and down in strength with every update. There has never been a universal constant.

As for nids, I would recommend getting a Tyranid Swarm Box and a Start Collecting! Tyranids. This should give you enough models to make a decent army to start off with.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

When I'm editing alot, you know I have a gakload of homework to (not) do.

I'll second this completely.

Get what you like and more importantly, what you will still want to play when it sucks.

I've been playing Terminators in Land Raiders for quite a while now and have gone from "Terminators suck and Land Raiders are overpriced (and if they don'd blow up from a lascannon hit they immobilise themselves on shrubs)" to "Terminators are amazing and Land Raiders don't die".

I'm under no illusions though that those models will at some point go back to being awful so should you. If you prioritise your purchases on their power right now you'll be disappointed further down the line.
