The chapter tactics and stratagem are both quite good. Not the best but certainly respectable. I don't know what they get for an artifact.

They got the Axe of Medusa. GW had it up on the Iron Hands Focus on the community page.

I make bad decisions and think they are good.

No, that honor belongs to the Imperial Fists.

Especially on Venerable Dreadnoughts. Getting two additional saves is just amazing

No they didn't, and this topic doesn't deserve it's own thread.

6+ anything is an occasional bonus, it's hardly anything to write home about. FnP doesn't become worthwhile until it's 5+, then you have a 1/3 chance of a save on a second attempt. 6+ might pop up once or twice a game in any meaningful way. What made IH so good n 7th was that FnP applying to everything in the army. IH certainly got the weakest CT

IF on the other hand got a decent CT and I believe they get some kind of bolter drill too. They seem solid, not the best but solid. I think IH are the weakest overall.

Iron Hands certainly didn't get a bad Chapter Tactic. It's not as good as some more specialized ones, in my opinion (The Imperial Fists have some great damage output buffs, and the Raven Guard have a defensive buff that in certain circumstances is much stronger, and will allow players to manipulate their opponent's options,) but it has one benefit: It's a no-brainer. There isn't going to be any complex risk-taking with Iron Hands, it's a set-it-and-forget-it bonus that allows you to focus on other thing.

If you don't have any specific goals with your army that rely on any particular Tactic, and just want a Chapter Tactic that's useful in all circumstances...
Well, you should be playing Salamanders. But Iron Hands are a good second choice, and since I prefer their lore, I'm going with them personally.

Their Warlord Trait is really lackluster, IMO. Getting bonus attacks on a 6+ is okay, I guess, if you have a way to give a +1 to your to-hit rolls, but most of the time that's going to amount to less than one extra attack per assault phase, which is pretty dang meh.

Their relic is a more reliable Relic Blade swapping out for a Power Axe, which is... Also kinda lackluster, though at least fun. Compared to the powerful unique benefits offered by some of the other relics, this is a way to save 16 points and/or take a Relic Blade with a Storm Shield.

Their unique Strategem, at least... Is also pretty meh, though at least potentially useful in an armor heavy list.

Overall, Iron Hands are by no means weak, and are user-friendly if you don't have any fancy plans, but I think they're also a far stretch from the tanky powerhouse that they used to be.
