I'm thinking of buying a Start Collecting! Chaos Space Marines box to make a small Slaaneshi Warband, and I need an appropriate HQ choice for it. The box comes with a Terminator Lord/Sorceror but it feels like a slow terminator doesn't fit the theme of Slaanesh, especially since he can't take sonic weaponry of any kind. I also want them to remain chaos space marines, so the Daemon prince is also out of the question. However if there is a good and fluffy build for a Slaaneshi Terminator, I may consider it. Otherwise it's currently one of the lords riding a steed of slaanesh or a foot lord or sorceror to keep up with everyone. I'm trying to find one that is both fluffy and not completely useless. Also don't really want to use Lucius because that's the easy answer and I kinda want this to be my own warband rather than EC.

This is a fairly small project so I won't be purchasing stuff like extra terminators, rhinos and whatnot, which may affect the actual lord. I'm aiming for roughly 500-750 points.

Steed Sorcerers are decent - able to move to DTW enemy psykers or else get out of their DTW range, and an extra wound to insure against POTW. How about an Outrider detachment? Bikers and Raptors seem pretty good now, and Warp Talons can actually pay off if you can get Warptime cast on them; deep strike in, jump forwards into the middle of the enemy, declare a charge against the entire army, roll your distance, and play tag with Land Raiders and Leman Russ tanks to deny them a shooting phase whilst slicing up some shooty infantry. (Though a deepstriking Terminator squad getting a free move is also great.)

Many things can fit the theme of Slaanesh. Many become duelists or desire to become the master of one weapon or many.

Simple answer could be to use something that could be considered skillful or something that would grant the Slaanesh lord great enjoyment in carving or dealing damage to the enemy. Such as Lightning Claws or a Power Sword.

Going with a normal battalion because I want to use sonic weaponry (hence, Noise Marines and Sonic Dreadnoughts). This is kinda why I'm having a hard time deciding on a HQ since none of the HQs have access to sonic weaponry, making them the odd ones out.

You could always use the combi-flamer and consider it a mixture of Sonic weaponry?

Nottingham (yay!)

Codex CSM is out at the end of next week. See what options Slaaneshi Lords get then. In the meantime I suspect that you can pencil in a Steed guy with Doom siren and/or Combi-weapon, to act as a mobile general who runs along the gunline of Sonic weaponry, taking advantage of his ability to Advance and still fire his Assault weapons & charge as he gives re-rolls and Heroic Interventions where needed. Picture a pitched battle of antiquity, with the infantry closing with the enemy as Hannibal or Caesar or Saladin leads from the front on their mount.

Daemon prince is still a chaos marine thus they have one for marines and another for daemons

FYI Emperors Children are today's Codex preview - they first strike like Slaaneshi Daemons, and MoS enables a FNP psychic power & a double-tap Strategem. NICE. Glad I gave my Plasma Havocs an Icon of Excess and just ordered some Hellstriders!

Now I'm kinda tempted to go balls out with the "two chainsword" Steed lord (assuming the steed lord is still there when the codex drops. They technically have a model for it! in AoS but still!). Apparently that generates something like 9 yolo attacks that, while lacking AP, gives a ton of chances of generating DttFE extra attacks.

It seems like the EC's army trait isn't so much for close combat, but rather to allow them to use their close-ranged guns with impunity. Normally guns with short ranges are afraid of people charging them next turn, rendering them at best a 1-turn use thing. Now with the ECs striking first, it looks like it would be a deterrent to people trying to negate their shooting (charging them would mean eating a round of Overwatch, then a round of face punches).

Also the double shots would be EPIC with Sonic blasters in range or even Blastmasters. Essentially each marine would be putting out 6 bolter shots or firing off an average of 4 krak missiles!

Definitely, I can see myself using most of my CPs on a brutal alpha strike salvo, need more Icons for my Havocs gunline. I just made an Icon of Wrath for my ten Terminators, but now I'm thinking about Excess to just annihilate everything within 12"... no, wait and see what Khorne brings first

Wait and see what Relics we get before kitting out a Steed Lord, there'll probably be some awesome Daemon Weapons they can bring out.

Indeed. I'm gonna hold off on this project until the codex drops. I'm also hoping that the Sonic Dreadnought is an actual codex thing now, rather than existing only as a FW FAQ thing.

I just Build/Modified 2 Noise Brutes, with twin Blastmasters,
so Endless Cacophony looks even more fun!
I agree with your thinking on a severe Alpha Strike, too!
Maybe I'll combine my 5 man Noise Marine Squads into 10 with 2 Blastmasters.

Delightful Agonies makes my Maulerfiend drool,
as he's been my MVP in the two games I've tried him in

be careful, Endless Cacophony only works with Infantry or Biker units, so the Sonic Dreadnought can't use it (not that it's an issue, given it already has two blastmasters).

Wee thing to bear in mind with EC - it happens at the end of the shooting phase, so no popping a Land Raider with it then shooting the unit that was inside.

If I were you I would go with a Slaanesh Sorcerer for your Warlord. Based off the new power previewed today a Slaanesh Sorcerer will be a powerful force multiplier at a low points value by keeping your models alive longer with that 5+ ward save.

Indeed. Not to mention finding a metal steed model would be rather expensive and hard. Now the dilemma is giving him terminator armor or no (Again, Terminators don't scream slaanesh).

Would it have to be metal? Probably wouldn't take too long to find a parts seller with a plastic Steed from the Seekers or Hellstriders.

Only the boob snake looks good. The seeker mounts look way too wimpy for CSM.

Fair. I was looking at Ravener bodies, at the very least I'll try make some mini-Fulgrim Spawn out of them...
