Subject: How feasible is an all dreadnought army?
|
 |
Imperial Recruit in Training

Hi,
I don't currently play marines but I've always loved the dreadnought and now I'm wondering how feasible an all dreadnought army would be
As far as I'm aware it would have to be blood angels as they have the Librarian Dreadnought HQ option but do you know of any other way of doing it?
I know the wolves have the dreadnought special character but as your only allowed one it would be difficult to get to 2000points/100PP as I think I'd need to do multiple Vanguard detachments
So what do you reckon is an all dreadnought army a terrible idea or is it just crazy enough to work?
Cheers

Chaplain Dreadnought from Forge World for HQ. It's doable but it's not very effective and if you get charged by grots it's game over. https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/734483.page

Forge World indexes give all chapters the ability to take a Chaplain Dreadnought as an HQ. Even without that, you can still take Bjorn or the Librarian Dread as your HQ; they just won't benefit from the buffs from each other due to not sharing the same chapter, but otherwise will have no penalties.
As it stands, shooty dreads are incredibly useful and even with the nerf of not being able to take autocannons in the codex, they still come with a decent number of toys to play with. Personally I like all my dreads to have at least one fist, but the ML is incredibly useful alongside dual lascannons or even the assault cannon.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

Thanks chaps
I don't use forge world stuff so wouldn't get a Chaplin dread
Mixing Bjorn and a BA Librarian Dreadnought sounds a bit cheesy plus I'd have no idea what colour to paint the rest of the army
My current thinking is something
Blood angels
2x Librarian dreads
2x Death Company
2 x Redemptor (if that's what the new big stomps ones are called)
4x normal, 2 Lascannon and missile and 2 gun and fist
1 Furioso
I may swap some for venerable and maybe an Ironclad if I want to drop being full blood angels

Probably most viable with Chaplain-led Ultramarines, who don't care about tarpits... shame Chronus doesn't have a sarcophagus suit

Actually now that I think about it, there's really no point in not making the rest of your dreads the same as Bjorn or the Librarian Dreadnought. The only real drawback is the Ironclad not getting buffs, but otherwise BA and SW have access to all the vanilla dreads anyways.

According to imperium 1 blood angels don't get Contemptors, venerable or Ironclads
Not sure about wolves
