So I picked up 10 vanguard vets on the sprue, I really wanna do a variety of weapons so I can swap things in and out of my lists, but as far as I can tell you cant take combi weapons.

Anyone think this will change with the dex? if not ill just build em as is.

Oh it seems I can take veterans with jump packs and equip them willy nilly? is this correct?

It doesnt specify in the book.

Probably not, I think it's Sternguard that are the shooty (hence Combi) veterans.

Vanguard are more for CC.

I would hold on until the Codex if you're not sure though, just in case they do allow them.

Blood Angels have a history of unique options in their squads, so it's not a non-zero chance. But the most likely outcome is no change.

BA has unique vets that can take jump packs. Same statline basically, so for shootyness use company vets and for more cc oriented use vanguards. Sternguard is a solid veteran option as well, but not that BA'ish.

I run my company vets with jump packs, 3man strong, with 2x plasma, combi-plasma and one storm shield. Clocks at 103 points and in the last game I played I took out two havocs in some precision deep striking to get rapid fire. In the first turn I only dropped one of those units and they killed a whole squad of havocs in one go.

I've got little experience on vanguard vets so far, but last I used was a 6man, with jump packs, relic blade & storm shield on the sergeant, 2x storm shield & power axe and 3x power sword & plasma pistol. I have to say plasma pistols killed the most, even that I had a librarian buffing them with +1 attack.

changing a pistol to a combi is quite easy and clean project to do actually, if you use super glue, it'll just snap if you bend it a bit from the original place, it doesn't melt the plastic like GW's plastic glue. I use loctide precision super glue for two years and several packages and never going back..
