Ive been considering getting into SM. I haven't wanted to in the past few years I have been playing mostly because I lived with 2 other SM players and when it's all bolters and power armor it's all pretty bland even when everyone is playing different special snow flake SM. Now that I mostly play with non SM players I have been looking into a few options.

Of all the space marine armors available I like the Mark 3 the best. I also think the extra armor bolted onto the front really fits the theme of the Storm Wardens wanting to be all frontal assault and getting into peoples faces with swords and all that. I think the shoulders look the coolest of all the different kinds of shoulders.

I also think the Mark III helmets are dumb as gak, but the Mark 4 helmets are the best looking helmets out there (which is why I think that style has been used for the primaris). They look the most terrifying. The closest to a skull without being a skull. It's just bad ass.

If anyone has these kits

1) Do mk 4 helmets fit well on mk 3 bodies?

2) Storm Wardens are supposed to have pretty close ties with the Adeptus Mechanicus so I figure getting the extra plating and the newest style of helmets (Newest since the Primaris all have them) wouldn't be out of the question. Is this a big fluffy no no or would it be fine to combine the parts that way? (Especially if I end up adding some Primaris the helmet styles would all match).

3) How hard is it to get a hold of a decent number of power swords? (I don't have any SM kits. This is all a kind of spit balling if I want to dive into the army before I make any purchases).

3.5) Alternatively, any good bits out there for Power Claymores (Or just in general really big freaking power swords)? (I know there are a lot of styles of different power swords out there from different 3rd party companies, I am hoping someone would be familiar with them and could point me in a direction).

4) Anyone know if anyone makes any bits that would make good Storm Warden Storm Shields? Just the general shape would be fine.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

1) Sure!

2) I wouldn't go full mk 3. They don't have any imperial insignia and are supposed to be super rare. Just mix and match some more modern armours in with the old ones and you are fine.

3) In my 7 years of building SMs I got a ton. There is almost one in every box.

3.5) You want the Vanguard box and the Command Squad they have both a big classic two-handed PS. If you want to go with bigger numbers and the style appeals to you you can still go with GK's Nemesis Swords but imho the look is pretty unique to them so if the Storm Wardens don't have ties to the Inquisition I'm unaware of, I would stay away from these for everyone bar the HQs.

4) The old Assault Squad box had a shield just like that. The Command Squad has a similar one and so do Dark Angel veterans although both have modelled icons on them. If everything else fails it shouldn't be that hard to cut them out of plasticard.

Playing mostly Necromunda and Battletech, Malifaux is awesome too!

1. Yes, but it doesn't look great with full MK3.
All 'Regular Marines' parts are intercompatible.

2. MK3 is supposed to be very old, technically MK2 with extra plating, so MK3 should be used sparingly.

3. Easy as pie. FW have you covered if you need more.

4. The command squad has one (chapter champion), as does the new assault marine kit.
I also think plasticard cut-outs would be fine, they'd also be easier to fit to tactical forearms.

Thanks for the response!

Fluff wise storm wardens seem to have more techmarines then most. It implies some connection with AM. But also means they have more hands working on the armors than most at any given time. Mark 3 armor is aparently just mark 2 with extra plating bolted on. So arguably mark 3 style in 40k could be ANY armor with extra plating bolted on? Yeah?

As for a link to the inquisition, it looked they they mostly work a lot with various inquisitors and the ordo xenos. That being said, i want a larger blade, im not particular on handles and would gladly do a little chopping to make larger power swords if i can get the blades for cheap.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Primarily i think i like mk 4 heads. Mk 3 shoulders and any bodies that don't have the odd criss cross bandolier chests. Regular tac marine chests seem fine. But the less like a chest plate it is the worse it looks to me.

I don't think it would be hard to ajust MK3 armour to look like reinforced MK7, just smooth over the back with green stuff and add an appropriate helmet.

If you want really big swords, the Empire Greatswords are probably the way to go.
Kromlech do some nice 'not chainswords' and some big 'not power swords'.
FW's Legion MK3 weapon set has a pair of very big power swords.
