Nah I'm not talking about a new transport for primaris.

I'm talking about the rhino command tank from the space marine index. You think it could be viable? 10 man Helblaster unit could overcharge every turn with it's +1 to hit bonus. It's also an HQ choice and has a pretty powerful one use weapon and 2 plasma guns. I think I'm going to try it out. Anyone used it in battle and have any tips?

I haven't, but there's no doubt that it's an interesting option. Marines have no other way to get +1 to hit so the regrettably-named primaris rhino is in a class of its own.

Getting +1 to hit is strictly better than the captain's rite of battle. It makes you immune to overheating, and hit better than RoB. So for plasma there's really no substitute.

The tank itself doesn't do loads though. I guess you could just hide it somewhere.

One downside is that the primaris rhino cannot transport primaris marines. Hellblasters are primaris. GW should have made an exception for that vehicle, its absurd that it cant do it with that name.

They made the space marine command tanks about 2 years ago - I think that's what this was always called.

It's kinda pricey - it's too bad you have to pay for the 1 use weapon. Though it isn't a bad weapon at all. d3 str 10 ap-4 d6 damage - doesn't need line of site. If it wasn't one use I would probably always take it though. If you were able to say - 1 shot a manticore and then buff a 10 man hellblaster with heavy plasma incernators all game - I think it would more than pay for itself.

I tested it out with reasonable success a couple of times. If you're looking to satisfy both an HQ tax and a transport slot, it's not bad. But if it's only filling one of those two roles, I think it's too expensive. It's a shame the 1-shot gun you have to pay for is so many points.

I'd test it out and see how it does for you though. Like I said, if you were going to take a Rhino anyways, AND you only want to take 1 other HQ choice, it can be a reasonable way to pay that HQ tax since you were paying points for the transport anyways.

Or at least change the name of it to avoid confusion. No reason it couldn't be a Command Rhino.

I bring one in almost all of my lists. It houses my characters to reduce drops in the beginning, and it is the best force multiplier that we have as Space Marines IMHO. Hellblasters, Centurions, and Sternguard all benefit a lot from the +1 to hit, and it also has great synergy with Bolter Drill.
