Hey, simple question, probably complicated answer.

How can I cut an oval base (this one) into a ~90mm round base?

I don't have any power tools but will look for some if there's no other choice. I have a detail saw, a bunch of files and sandpaper; so you can guess my planned route. I don't think it's a very good plan.

Thanks!

In theory, just mark a circle on top, saw away the biggest excess bits, then clean up the shape with files (from rough to smooth) then finish with sandpaper.

I say 'in theory', as there's a decent chance the base would break under all that stress.

Also, all that resin dust is bad for the lungs...

Buy a dremel. It's worth it. And yes, well ventilated area and keep the resin wet to cut down on airborn dust. You don't want to breath that.

You could also pick up a circle cutter to scribe the line cleanly and cut it through over several passes.

Done! A friend created a little setup for doing this in his workshop and did this for me. Here's how he did it: http://photos.kumari.net/Projects/Lathe-Resin-Base/

And here's the result!
