So, I have taken upon myself to make a pure Primaris chapter of my own styling! With that in mind then, I am left wondering what loadouts are good for Intercessors and the Redemptor Dread? Are Auto Bolt Rifles better for more dakka or is the range and AP -1 on regular Bolt Rifle better? Are Stalkers even worth it? Same goes for the Redemptor, I actually don't know if I consider it worth it's points.. as Primaris to me don't really lack anti-infantry dakka power, which the Onslaught cannons provide, but the Plasma cannon seems very unreliable.. especially as it only does D1 unless it overcharges itself.

For Intercessors, the Stalker isn't worth it. In my eyes, the bolt rifle and auto boltrifle is a compelling option that gains a lot of ground on the standard boltrifle depending on your chapter tactics and how mobile you want to be. At ranges over 15'', the auto boltrifle obviously outclasses the normal one, and it also allows you to fire while advancing. It's a bit more forgiving with your placement since a guaranteed 2 shots is easier to manage at safer ranges than the standard. CT's like White Scars and Raven Guard will benefit from this, the former in an aggressive offensive role and the later for the extra kiting room it affords you.

While Intercessors are resilient, they aren't going to put out a boatload of hurt - that isn't their role. They're pretty great against fellow troops or infantry, but their role is to contest objectives and stay alive once it's captured. They'll be great at that, but they're also foot sloggers unless you invest in a Repulsor, and I feel like there's more valuable cargo you can stick in one of those. Take that as you will.

For the Redemptor, this is where you can get a ton of dakka with a fistful of str 5 ap-1 shots, as you mentioned. Alternatively, like all random shot weapons, the plasma cannon is going to sometimes be MVP and sometimes fizzle out. The degrading statline doesn't help, but losing only one mortal wound to a plasma misfire is pretty great. Keep it near a captain for those lovely rerolls.

Auto bolt rifle is not worth it, because you can get the same offensive capability with Reivers, but they are more mobile and cost less.

Bolt Rifle is decent

Stalker Bolt Rifle is the best choice by far, there is a huge difference between no AP, AP -1 and AP -2

It all depends on WHO you are fighting

Here's how the exchange of fire would go between MEQ:

Both not in cover

10*0.66*0.5*0.33=1.089 average wounds inflicted by Auto Bolt Rifle

5*0.66*0.5*0.66=1.089 average wounds inflicted by Stalker Bolt Rifle

Both in Cover:

10*0.66*0.5*0.16=0.528 average wounds inflicted by Auto Bolt Rifle

5*0.66*0.5*0.5=0.825 average wounds inflicted by Stalker Bolt Rifle

Conclusion - there is no difference when both are not in cover, but HUGE difference when both are in cover, at around 60% more average wounds per turn.

Though if you're fighting a horde enemy, with poor armor - Auto Bolt Rifle wins easily at almost 50% more wounds inflicted

@Lemondish - True, I suppose 18 heavy bolter shots is a lot and it comes on an overall cheaper platform than the repulsor that is still pretty durable if you want anti-infantry dakka. I honestly can't ever see me using the Macro Plasma, the RNG on the number of shots it gets is just too much RNG swing for me.. Hellblaster are just overall more reliable.

@Dovis - I currently don't know what to expect to fight as it has been YEARS since I touched 40k and 8th ed plus Primaris have made me want to leap back into it. I have 3 other friends joining, one who I know will play Nids, another who is guard and final one who mixs up between Guard (Valhalla) and Space Wolves. But no idea what the local club's overall scene is, so just trying to make an All-Rounders force.

Do Intercessors as 5 man squads with the Launcher. 101 points for an objective holder you legit have to try and knock off home objectives.

Then regular bolt rifle is your best choice since in rapid fire range it can outperform both other weapons, but at a further distance it loses a bit of punch, though getting into range with marines isn't a big issue

I've been having a bit of luck with taking A LOT Primaris Marines and just castling them up. A bunch of Hellblasters bubble wrapped with Intercessors (bolt rifles) with a Lt. and a Captain for rerolls is a pretty hard nut to crack when placed in the center of the board. If there is an objective near the center, place this blob on that.

Keep Inceptors cheap, and use them to take out annoying and unsupported units or just run them to a not-too congested objective and sit on it.
