heya dakka it's been awhile. I'm looking at getting back into 40k and will be joining a slow grow group for it. I'm here to ask about models. I like almost all the armies and so i'm here to ask what's the best army if i want to build medium to large models. i don't mind doing smaller models for troop choices and what not but i'd prefer to paint larger models like bugs or vehicles and mechs like dreadnaughts and wraith lords. so my question is what army is going to be made up of the biggest models most frequently?

Tau Empire Ghostkeel forces use a perfect sized model. I love them. Three of those at the core of a force is a great start and the Stormsurge is of course quite fun. Add Markerlight support and stir. I mean if its all about the models, it's super hard to go wrong here.

Hold out bait to entice the enemy. Feign disorder, and then crush him.

Tau and AdMech are probably the ones you wouldn't have to go far out of your way with. Most armies can build mechanized or build around big things, but they're core/self-sufficient in those two lists to a degree that they aren't most places (e.g. Imperials need infantry to keep melee units off their vehicles, Eldar rely a lot more heavily on the people in the transports than on the big things doing their thing unless you're doing a wraith-host list built with a fifth of the army book, that sort of thing).

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

Tyranids have a lot of awesome large and medium sized models plus they will get a new codex in 2 months.

your mind

You have choices depending on types of models and style of play.
But given that you might not want to paint lots of troops you might avoid orks and imperial guard for example.
I think a suit heavy tau army looks cool and would be fun, plus basic troops shouldn't be too difficult to paint.
So that seems the best advice.

I'd say tyranids, ad mech or tau like other users suggested but also harlequins since they are an elite army with some mid necessary mid sized model (vehicles and bikes) and a few troops since all their units are points sinks.

Maybe an ork dread mob or space wolves with dreads and thunderwolf cavalry?

What about dark eldar coven stuff with cronos, talos and/or grots plus vehicles?

Hmmm...
Aren't the primaris marines large enough?
