Hey y'all, just here hoping for a bit of feedback and maybe some tips/ideas on my current Giant Chaos Spawn conversion. I'm starting up a Dark Mechanicum army project, and my first major build is going to be a more 'mechanical' version of a giant chaos spawn (I'll stop saying giant chaos spawn now.... GCS instead!)

So I believe the original spawn comes on a 100mm round base (thats what the GW site says), but I am using a large oval base which should be close enough for most people (think its 90mm x 120mm so mildly bigger in fact). I have come up with the following two versions, using mostly the same bitz and blue-tacked together.

I'll spoiler them so the images don't explode people's screens!

Version 1:

Version 2:

Version 1 is more of a beast, where version 2 is more of a mechanical spider. I'm actually leaning towards version 2, but the problem is I think the tentacles I'm using are a bit on the long/big side for the base-size / model. May work with a little trimming down though, and I plan to make other thinner tendrils as decoration using greenstuff and a roller I bought.

Any thoughts? Appreciate the feedback before I finalise and start painting/glueing!

A kraken was the original kind of inspiration for the piece haha, but that draft of it ended up more spider-ey. Though I can easily add a couple more tendrils/tentacles that aren't scuttling it accross the ground.

I considered having one wrapped around a space marine, carrying it along for the ride. Or something similar. Maybe a Tau instead.

I need to figure out how to make the base, I think this piece needs a decently solid "broken-ground" base for it to be clambering over / out of.

Option 2 is clearly the best. I'm not familiar with the range but it's a really effective combination of parts. Maybe it could be crashing through a barricade or fence?

What will your themed army have as troops/infantry Niiru?

Chaos cultists, though I will be using a mixture of cultists and admech vanguard (and/or maybe some tech thralls)

Spoiler:

I think they all actually look pretty much in-theme with each other. I was considering using renegades&heretics for the units, but unfortunatly it's better to just ignore that list exists and use basic cultists for everything.
