What models are you painting?
40k and science fantasy games can be done in either style but FoW and historicals should be in historical colours.

I like the fantasy vibe i mean they both look cool but if i was playing a WW2 game id go muted and realistic tones but in a fantasy setting i like the fantasy paints

Facts are chains that bind perception and fetter truth. For a man can remake the world if he has a dream and no facts to cloud his mind.

I am fan of muted colors and more realistic, gritty looking armies, no matter what the setting.

Again its personal preference, but bright colors on "war" models just dont do it for me. Even Sci Fi looks cool with more realistic like paints.

Again all my opinion.

Why not both.

Tone downed colors for the model.

but high contrast shadows and highlights

and crazier colors for things like plasma and energy effects.
