I'm putting together a lot of tanks and want them to have interchangeable weapons. Also able to swap heavy bolter teams for autocannons and lascannons. And also magnets to put on the bottom of bases for transport. Which of these magnets should I use? https://www.connectionpointmagnets.com/collections/discs What do you recommend? (I'm from Australia so measurements are metric)

The biggest ones you can fit! I like it when you get the gun close to it's mount and it clanks on and stays solid the whole game! Online they are cheep enough I would get a veriety of your best guesses.

Here in the US we can get some sizes at Hobby Lobby and the like at decent prices, so you may want to se if you can try out a few this way before you order a bunch.

P.S. Yay metric!

Whichever ones fit/work best. I used four different sizes of magnets in magnetizing my Knight - three different discs and few rod magnets.

A good tip for magnetizing is to superglue/green stuff a magnet to the end of two old paint brushes. Mark one as red and one as blue and have one with the north pole and one with the south pole facing up. Really easy way to test which way your magnet has to face and gives you a nice stick for setting them into place.

For most cases with guard, magnets of 3x2mm dimension are the practical number. You can get those at decent strength ratings at a small price for a hundred or more.

These also come into play if you get interested in the stuff at Blood and skulls - the light and medium weapons and mountings/turrets all use 3x2mm magnet sockets.

Check out the AM subforum on Bolter and Chainsword, they have every AM tank magnet tutorial pinned there.

Though he uses really small magnets, my meat hooks prefer 1/8" size, otherwise they get too tricky and flip on me reversing polarity

I'm with Gunz - though 1/8" and 3mm are the same diameter, I just checked out of curiosity. You can use a knife blade as the application tool as well when fitting it to the socket.

2mm thick magnets are also nice for having a little extra grab on them as well.

Square magnets should be strongly considered on anything that will rotate and shouldn't. My tau very much wish their magnets were square, to the point where I've glued some of them.

I've personally magnetised Leman Russ tanks with 2x1mm neodymium discs without any issue.
Due to the existing slots and tabs on the weapons, they fit solidly and stay in place.
