So, I came into a few Oldmarines, and was thinking about using them as sub-ins for Primaris Marines. (Probably Hellblasters, not that the specific type matters a lot.)
I figure I'll have to add a bit to their base to get them to the proper height, but other than that, does anyone see any problem with this/would you object to playing against them?
(Specifically, the non-heavy weapon varieties of these guys, with the sweet bayonet/weird energy weapon guns.)

Line of sight issues is the big one. Unless you can stand them on Astartes pattern step ladders or something.

Would I object to playing against them? No! I would be honored!
I love those old models, nor would I have a problem with their scale. Treat them nice. As long as its clear what's what when the game begins, you're good to go.

Huge nostalgia hit!
Looking at these models makes you appreciate just how far model design has come over the last 30 years.

"Courage and Honour. I hear you murmur these words in the mist, in their wake I hear your hearts beat harder with false conviction seeking to convince yourselves that a brave death has meaning.
There is no courage to be found here my nephews, no honour to be had. Your souls will join the trillion others in the mist shrieking uselessly to eternity, weeping for the empire you could not save.
To the unfaithful, I bring holy plagues ripe with enlightenment. To the devout, I bring the blessing of immortality through the kiss of sacred rot.
And to you, new-born sons of Gulliman, to you flesh crafted puppets of a failing Imperium I bring the holiest gift of all.... Silence."

Yeah. Model design definitely has come far. These models are to be honest quite ugly and silly next to their modern counterparts (let alone the big Primaris), but their great historical value as some of the first SM models makes up for that imo. Place them on a nice scenic base to make up for their small size and I'd be fine with that.

I'd absolutely play against them as Primaris.
I don't even care about the height that much. 8th ed. terrain is mainly area-based anyway, and the few edge cases where there's a benefit aren't enough to care about.

I'm not sure I entirely agree on the 'Ugly' bit. The sculpts lack detail and can be a bit 'Blotchy' (for lack of a better word,) but I really like a lot of the dynamic poses that you kind of don't really get from modern kits. (The subtle differences between the four 'Regular' Marines (Marine, Marine Advancing, Marine Guard, and Marine Firing) give them a whole lot of character and makes them all feel like distinct individuals instead of 10 identical models holding the exact same gun in the exact same resting pose.

Use them, consistently, and sure, perfect.
Primaris are two wound marines.
They should all have two wounds IMHO.
Gw messed up.
Go for it.
