I'm really enjoying the Death Guard models that have come out so far. I haven't quite settled on a list yet, so I haven't made any purchases aside from several DI and Know No Fear Death Guard forces and a preorder for the new Plague Marine and Biologus Putrifier kits. I do know, however, that I want to use a large squad of assault focused Plague marines. Since even the new Plague Marine box only includes one Flail of Corruption and two Bubotic axes, I've decided to get to work customizing my DI marines using the parts from several different kits. I also plan to make Fleshmowers for two of my Foetid Blight Drones, and a couple of Nurgle Daemon Princes based on Plague Drones.

The close combat squad I plan to build will be equipped like so:

Champion with Bolt Pistol and Plaguesword
2x Plague Marine with Flail of Corruption
10x Plague Marine with Bubotic Axe
2x Plague Marine with Blight Launcher

If I use one of each model from the DI and Plague Marine box, I will only have to repeat one "base" model pose. Now, each of the DI marines is designed for only one pose and loadout with many of their arms, heads, torsos and Boltguns fused together. In spite of this, I am not finding it very difficult to make some alterations that go a long way in changing their stock appearance. This does, however, entail large amounts of carving off various details and smoothing out the underlying surface.

I think this guy above is turning out to be my favorite so far. This is more like a cleaver, but axes don't grow on trees you know!

For parts I am using a mixture of the Putrid Blightkings, Mark III Tactical Squad and Possessed kits. Obviously, I am getting my weapons primarily from the Blighkings, while the Mark III marines are donating arms and shoulder pads. Heads and extra mutations are coming mostly from the Possessed. I had planned to use more of the heads from the Blightkings kit, but the helms are considerably smaller than the Plague Marine helmets. I will probably have to preform some face grafts to avoid having a bunch of marines with tiny heads.

And here are the first five converted, greenstuffed and primed.

Last night I pieced together a few more models:

This is my Malignant Plaguecaster, via the Champion from DI. I gave him the staff and a suitably mystical looking helm from the Blightkings, and added a little magic effect to his empty hand thanks to one of the censors from another model.

Having used the Champion, I clearly needed a substitute. The Plaguecaster was the only option if I didn't want any repeats. Like most people, I really wasn't a fan of the stock Plaguecaster model, so I had no problem chopping it up.

Finally, here's my attempt at a Plague Marine with a Flail of Corruption. The flail is just the bell thingy from the blight kings, elongated with plastic rod.

Now I'm waiting on the new Plague Marines box, so that will probably be all the conversions I do to standard troops. Next on the conversion list is making some Fleshmowers for my Blight Drones. In the mean time, I've started laying down base coats for the models I've finished so far:

Very cool conversions ! I am not fond either of the stock plaguecaster, but that made a lot of very cool converted plaguecasters pop up here and there. Yours is definitely one of them !

Keep it up !

Haven't updated this in a while but I have been hard at work when I have the time. The first five Plague Marines that I started are more or less done, barring some finishing touches:

Since my army will be very focused on close combat, I have decided to paint them in the colors of the Mouldering Claw vectorum. Comments and criticism are very welcome. I could particularly use advice on how to highlight the metallic green trim, or if I even should. I think I'm going to go with a traditional style toxic goo base for this army. I will work on that next.

I also have added the Plague Marine and Easy to Build boxes to the collection:

The difficulty of converting the multi-part Plague Marines was surprisingly about the same as converting the DI models.

I have also completed a group of ten Poxwalkers:

I have a lot of work to do, including making my Daemon Princes, Fleshmower drones and some custom Chaos Cultists.

These are my current thoughts on the Daemon Prince and Fleshmower Bloat Drones:

The Daemon Prince is super simple and cheap; it's one of the Plague Drones from the AOS starter set with Tyranid legs and a Daemon Prince arm on it

I found it would be difficult to make an assembly that would hold my Fleshmower far enough out in front of the Blight Drone, so I imagined giving it "hands" in which it is gripping the deadly blades. They are magnetized so I can switch back to the stock Plague Spitters.

Very cool, I am especially fond of the possessed heads and of their paintjob.

Thank you! I also really like the Possessed kit in general and it has some cool bits to use for many Chaos conversions. Between that and the Blightkings, I have quite a lot of Nurgly heads to use.

Thanks! I have a Foul Blightspawn converted, I just haven't had time to do pictures lately. Fortunately most of the special characters can be pretty easily converted out of normal Plague Marines. I will post an update soon.

I've been super busy lately, but here's my take on the Foul Blightspawn so far.

nice, what parts did you use?

I used one of the Plague Marine bodies from DI; head, shoulder pads and plague spewer with backpack from the Plague Marines; an insect leg from the Blightwars Plague Drones and some greenstuff for the drips.

I love the conversions.

Generic characters disappearing? Elite units of your army losing options and customizations? No longer finding that motivation to convert?

I appreciate it. I know I haven't posted updates in a while, but I'm still working. Just haven't been at a good stopping point for pictures. I'm almost done painting all of the Plague Marines, and I just got boxes of Empire Flagellants and Neophyte Hybrids to make Cultists out of.

Finally have something worth a few pictures. I've obtained one of the texture rollers from Green Stuff World in order to give my bases an industrial feel:

I like the way the roller works. It should be pretty simple and cheap to create bases for my whole army this way. I couldn't get them perfect, but the fun thing about Nurgle armies is that mistakes can be turned into gribbly or oozy flavor.

I put this technique to trial to finish of the first Plague Marines I've finished painting. The rest are oh so close.

I have also started throwing together some cultists based on parts from the Empire Flagellants, Neophyte Hybrids, Skitari and Plague Bearers:

Here's my progress on the rest of the Plague Marines. I'm going to touch them up with some rust and glossy effects and call it good. Maybe after I base them I can figure out how to take proper photographs

Thank you! I'm kind of concerned that it's a bit too dark and flat looking in spots but overall I like how it turned out.

I have the Plague Marines based. I'm waiting to take pictures until I can figure out how to do a decent job of it.

However, I do have pictures of the Chaos Cultists I've assembled:

I used Neophyte Hybrids, WFB Empire Flagellants, Skitarii Rangers, Sicarian Ruststalkers, Cadian Command and AOS Plague Bearers for bits.

I have been seeing a few people talk about painting with inks and washes only over a white or grey primer coat as a quick way to decently paint rank and file troops. After all the time I spent on the Plague Marines, something quick and easy sounds like just the ticket for their ablative wounds. I decided to try priming the cultists grey and washing the colors on, using purple, green and red as my colors of focus.

Here is a test cultist:

Cultists are done, just have to roll out the green stuff for their bases:

Today I painted my Daemon Prince and took some pictures of the based cultists. I made myself an impromptu light box, but it looks like I need to use a different light. I was shining one directly on the models and the pictures still came out very dark!

Thank you! I kind of made it up as I went along but I like how it's coming together, as well. The best part is that I only have about 6 characters and 3 blight drones left!

Some amazing conversions here man. I've just ordered DI(splitting with a friend so I can grab the DG) and hopefully picking up Know No Fear soonish and planning on making a CC squad as well. The blightkings stuff looks great on them so will be robbing these ideas.

What I really like is your paint scheme, I haven't settled on one yet. What colours did you use?

Here is my full recipe:

Armor plating:
Prime black
Spray VAC Dark Green
Zenithal spray VAC Sick Green
Highlight VGC Livery Green on brightest areas, Sick Green otherwise
Pin wash Vallejo Sepia Ink
Blots and smudges of SWM Tire Black

Metallic trim:
VMC Gold
Thin glaze of VAC Sick Green
Highlight with bright silver mixed with Sick Green
Pin wash Sepia Ink

Tabards/cloaks/robes:
Army Painter Alien Purple
Glaze VGC Warlock Purple
Glaze Army Painter Abomination Gore
Highlighted some areas VGC Dead Flesh

Gore bits:
Same as tabards with a purple wash and sometimes extra layers or red and/or Vallejo Fresh Blood effect

Tentacles:
Alien Purple
Glaze Warlock Purple
Highlight VAC Squid Pink

Most bone/horn/teeth mutations:
SWM Tire Black
Glaze SWM Rubber
Highlight Army Painter Wolf Grey

There are lots of random details that I just kind of painted as I went along, but those are the things that all of the models share in common.
