Hello guys,

After decades spent on painting space marines, demons and nidz, I am starting a necron army.

I just bought a lot of warriors / immortals, and I am thinking about a way to paint them quicly and efficiently.

My plan is to prime them black, a coat of metallic paint with my airbrush, then dip them in the army painter quickshade. To remove the excedent of wash, I am thinking on placing the fig on a drill by the base, them make it turn carefully until the result is nice.

Has anybody tried that ?

Many thanks !

That sounds good. You will get the usual quickshade result witch is the fasted time to result ratio that I know of. You might wanne look into some way of highlighting, but that is maybe what your airbrush. Perhaps take 2 colours of aibrush? Making the parts that are 'up' be slightly lighter then the other parts?

Also perhaps having another wash also to make them more gritty. There is a nice video of adam savage talking about weathering a terminator rerplica. He is all for several layers of what would be wash. (Around 5:00) 'https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKflhTrRh2k'

So sugested steps:

1 Black Primer
2 Airbrush Metal (or dark metal)
3 Wash in anotother colour then the quiskshade (so black if the quickshade is brown?)
4 Airbrush metal to make highlights
5 Quickshade

Can you airbrush on top of quiskshade? If so I would probably swap step 4 and 5.

I am also fan of necrons having an eery green glow. But that is subjective. I thinl the process above is very good.

Well if you are set on Dipping them then
https://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Dipping_Tyranids

using a drill or one of those cheap electric mixers would work.

as Niiai says since you have an air brush, personally id go

Black primer
Touch up with hairy stick on areas you missed
Airbrush dark metal
Airbrush zenthial with a light metal
Quick shade
paint glowy bits to add contrasts
Seal.

I have read that the quickshade is varnish based, so once it is dry, is it easy to paint on it ?

IIRC it dries gloss so you may have some trouble with sticktivity

hitting it with some matt or satin varnish should help.

Why not try below;

Prime in white
Airbrush a 'Medium metalic'
Ink with Black/Nuln Oil or Dip
Lightly drybrush with another metal

Done.
