I’m thinking of starting a Tyranid army now that they seem pretty decent, and I kinda want to run it using counts-as Lovecraftian beasties like shoggoths and Nyarlathotep and whatnot for my guys. Basically nothing but faceless, tentacled asymmetric creatures that are truly alien. What are some good sources of miniatures for this? Reaper has a nice selection, especially after their latest Kickstarter, but what are some other good options out there?

Studio Mcvey's stuff for the Others 7 Deadly Sins models could work well.

Have a look at my P&M blog - currently working on Sons of Horus

Would definitely start with Reaper's minis.

Mophidius also has a pretty good sized metal figs range for their Achtung! Cthulhu Skirmish game.

Thanks for the suggestions! There’s a few GW models that can work, like mycetic spores, malefactor/toxicrenes, any of the more abstract slimy things, but most of it has too many recognizable animal parts.

I think I’ll stick mostly to Reaper unless I can find a really good deal on the other products. All of them make some really great and horrible monsters, but running a large army of Kingdom Death or Scibor is somewhat...unfeasible. Probably just one or two big things then flood the field with cheap Bones cthuns and shoggoths and whatnot for swarms of stuff.

Cthulhu Wars has a ton of stuff to choose from, but they are pretty big so probably only viable for larger creatures.

Look up Board game pieces as well both Conan and Massive Darkness have usable pieces as well. I think theres another Cthulu board game about as well.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

I will second Cthulhu Wars. The models are fairly high-end for boardgames PVC, especially the big ones of course. They were also available as part of the KS for a Pathfinder Cthulhu something or other. A friend went in heavy on that one and got a crate full of minis.

I looked at the Cthulhu Wars game minis and yeah they are definitely my jam. I had just assumed they weren’t that big. There’s a bunch of glow in the dark promo figures on ebay, I guess those could be primed over pretty easily.

Reaper ones have a Mythos pack including Dark Young, MiGo, Cultists and various investigators. It should be available soon,if not now.

Are there any neutral faction fortifications available anymore? I think one neat way to represent some horrible monster and swarms using the Tyranid rules is to have a big high-wound fortification, model it as a giant tentacled creature, then get smaller tentacles for counts-as gaunts to represent it branching out feeder tendrils. All I’m seeing for Bastions at least are either imperial or chaos versions. Are they all marked that way now?
