So I picked up the last of the old starter kits at my local GW (lucky me ) and want to make the tyrant into the swarmlord. I like the model but I think it’s just not big or impressive enough to be “to a Hive Tyrant what a Hive Tyrant is to a Termagant”. I’m on a limited budget (until after Christmas at least ) but I was wondering any not too complex ways to make him:

A. Just a bit taller and more menacing. Probably by changing the leg pose?

B. Make use of a Trygon body. I’ve got a badly painted one lying around that I could strip down and modify - was wondering if anyone could give me some tips on how it’s done.

Any suggestions or alternative ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I have all forgeworld tyrants, but for my swarmlord i added the extra armor to his shoulders. Those big blade spikes that come with the carnifex kit to the side of the head to make it looks closer to the other kits, head crest, some chopped up genestealer rending claws became pairs of mandibles of the sides of it's mouth, and I modified to the tail to be a split tail like it's picture in the codex.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

I was thinking about how to do this the other day. My first thought was to modify a dimechareon(sp?) model but that's a little more than i'd wanna spend.

Second thought was a mix the carnifex kit and hive tyrant kit. It would require a bit of chopping and repositioning but if memory serves the carni legs are slightly bigger then the tyrants.

Not currently able to double check atm but I'll do a comparison when I get home. Maybe something else will come to me by then too.

I like this idea though, good luck!

Thanks! If I had any cash spare at the moment I’d certainly chop up a carnifex. I’ve seen many conversions with minimal green stuff that look pretty impressive.

This is what I was thinking of with the Trygon. Don’t know what else I would need for it (only have the hive tyrant kit and the parts of a Trygon to mess around with). At the very least I’d need to model some new bone sabers (he’s meant to slice tanks, not vegetables)
