In your opinion, what is the most fun to play army in 8th?
You can either have personal experience with it, or have seen it on the tabletop.
Mine would be grey knights! It’s not even my army but watching a buddy have his terminators actually be useful, and deep strike reliably. Great time!

Gotta say it's Chaos Space Marines. Outside a couple of internal balance issues, it's the most powerful and balanced that CSM as a whole have been in years.

I don't want the best army, just one that isn't an exercise in picking up my models by turn 3.

Crushing Black Templar Crusader Pilot
|
I'm going to toot my own horn here by saying that Black Templars are actually more fun to play this Edition because of things like Land Raider Crusaders being a lot more viable in spite of paying 300-ish Points for a well equipped one, and weapons like Power Axes, Power Fists and Heavy Weapons being more viable because of the removal of Snapfiring and Unwieldy.
I haven't played them yet since I've only just bought the Codex and need to buy more models as well as read the Codex a bit more, but Chaos Space Marines seem like they're going to be hella fun to play.

Having watched a ton of bat reps, I think tyranids would be my choice. Might be I'm just thrilled to see them viable again, but every bat rep has been a fun game. They have the right amount of pressure, good mix of shooting and melee, and a good mix of weenies and monsters.

Great to hear the feedback and voting! (Tau fixed, my bad) its always interesting to see peoples perspectives from a strictly “gameplay” point of view. For example, I was thinking of getting AM but worried that the sit back and shoot playstyle may get boring?

While I don't enjoy ROFL Stomping people [I've been playing at a points disadvantage with my Garage Group] AM are now able to play the game in a way befitting their fluff, with units that are effective on the tabletop.
You don't have to play a gunline, and I don't. I play some support fire, some advancing units, and some Deep Strike / Aerial units to put threat on the whole board. At 1500 points, usually, vs 1650 to give my opponents a good game. I like 1500 point lists and my opponents enjoy having the extra points for toys.
We don't mind adjusting relative points. I'm aware that AM are over the power curve, and that we can fix it to make a more balanced game [while otherwise following the rules] by giving one side more points. The games are fun, and close, so that's all we're looking for in a game.
When I use Conscripts, which isn't always, I've used one group between 20 and 30 strong. With only one unit, it's like one Wraith Knight in 7th edition. It's a challenge to deal with, but not breaking the game.
They're fun to play. Balance issues are there, so... houserule to make it work with friends. If you're doing a pickup game, you can always play points down against your opponents.

Saying Nids because its the only army that I've seen have multiple viable builds without having to mix in units from.other armies.
I'm also confused ny IG having so many votes. When I play them even I get bored of my shooting phase.

I am having the most fun in years playing 40k with my Blood Angels Successor Chapter. Not because I am doing great with them, but it's that 40k is fun again to me, and I am enjoying running an army that is visually pleasing to me on the tabletop.
I have a pretty poor record with them against armies that have a Codex, but I have rarely felt that a win in those games is out of my grasp, while getting to field something that I get to write the narrative for due to a lack of named characters.

Sisters of Battle. We are definitely the best faction, and I'm appalled that you forgot us.

IG is fun. What's not to like about being an army with lots of tanks, lots of guy, individual troopers who are entirely expendable and mass conscripted, but despite not being genetically engineered killing machines stand up to the horrors of the galaxy and triumph through sacrifice and superior firepower! Also, did I mention the artillery? The IG is, without a doubt, one of the best factions out there in fluff and in gameplay. I would take a game against the Imperial Guard any day over a game with the Space Marines, because there's spirit the Imperial Guard have that factions like the Space Marines and Craftworld Eldar just lack.
As far as gameplay goes, I think that shooting in general is a lot more fun to play with and against than CQC forces. I don't really enjoy playing against melee heavy armies except the Tyranids, and wouldn't really consider playing any except the Tyranids myself. CQC is definitely a useful tool, but when it's the core of the list the game just feels very basic.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades! |

Ad Mech for me, I like their fluff and the way they sit within the meta (not a superpower but can hold their own against almost anything without being shamed off the table). The fact a good number of their units are glass cannons and without transports mean that tactics are necessary for some units if you like playing a varied force.

Gameplay wise, Ynnari for me.
There's something incredibly satisfying about positioning your pointy ears just right to trigger a nice, juicy Strength-from-Death cascade and (hopefully) watch it unfold, all the while knowing you could probably get tabled by a handful of heavy bolters if you whiff.
It's pretty tense.

Deathwatch are loads of fun this edition, just because of the sheer amount of weapons they can get away with. Split fire and melee being better means mixed Deathwatch squads actually work, and Artemis is just brilliant. His Statis Bomb is one of the most powerful weapons for mortal wounds (d6) on an infantry model, and it packs a real punch when you need it.

I don't see how people can vote for "canned strategy" armies like Guard and Sisters. You know exactly how the game will go before you even begin deployment. Such a yawnfest playing against armies like that.
CSM, Harlequins, Orks, Tyranids, and space marines are fun to play against.

I think tht is a little unfair. As an Ork player I will definitely say, that Guard can be played viably in more ways than Orks. Right now Orks can mass boyz or loose.
But I will gladly concede, that Orks takes a lot more skill to play, which is true of any assault focused army.
