So, I've placed some of shapeways 3D printed decals on my miniatures and they look great. The problem? I've had a sudden desire to amend my original plan and these no longer work on my guys. They are all painted, but can anyone think of the least damaging way to remove them? I'm more concerned about damaging the shoulder pad, I don't care if the decal gets destroyed.

What kind of adhesive did you use to fix them on? Considering they're painted and glued already, I'm thinking it's going to be pretty difficult to get them off without making a mess in some way.

Plastic/Modeling glue. Some mess is ok, if I can get them off with minimum destruction (read as salvage the shoulder pad so I can replace the decal) I'm cool with that.

If you used superglue there might be a chance you could carefully break it off and then clean up underneath, but plastic cement melts the surfaces of the two parts together permanently. I don't think there will be many ways of taking them off without damaging the shoulder pads, unfortunately. You will probably have to experiment, but off the top of my head I would consider trying to carve them off with a hobby knife.

Ok, thanks. I will try sacrificing one or two of the decals and seeing what I can do.

What's the miniature? If it's a simple domed shoulder (IE Cadians) just file it down
