So after an hour of Google-fu, I've failed to find any sort of transfer for squad marking I'd like to use. Specifically the crossed sword variant for assault squads. So my basic query here is, has anyone made their own transfers, and if so what procedure did you go through to get it correct?

Pic of what I'm talking about.

You can buy special decal paper for inkjet or laser printers, make sure you get the one for your printer, look around traditional model shops to find the stuff.

The sheets come in either clear or white; the clear sheet is for darker decals and anything that doesn't have white on it, where as the white means you have to cut carefully. The instructions are usually packed with the sheets.

I designed mine myself using some image editing software and used inkjet clear and white decal paper sealed with spray on gloss varnish, didn't work great for me, as I think I used too much varnish.

Check the Bolter and Chainsword download section. They have a ton of premade transfer sheets that you can print out on decal paper at home. Make sure you buy the correct type of paper for your printer.

It's also really good to get the micro-set and micro-sol fluids to aid adhesion and shaping of the decals to fit neatly.

I print my own decals on a laserjet printer.

It can be a real b*h to get the decal paper to go through the printer. I usually end up having to stick masking tape down the decal paper in line with the rollers on my printer so that it can grab the sheet and feed it through.

Also, test print on plain paper to check scale and alignment.

Print lots of spares, as they tend to rip when you cut them.
