So I'm getting into Grey Knights and I've read most of the fluff in the Codex.
It appears to me that there are only 8-ish Grand Masters in the universe, but they end up being practically the best HQ choice you can take outside of named characters.
I'm having trouble justifying taking more than 1 for fluff reasons since it should take an absolutely crazy event to see 2 Grand Masters on the field at once.
At the same time, I want to take more than 1 because they're so dang good...
I'm not playing competitively, but the other HQ choices aren't as strong IMO. Anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions on how to justify using 2 or more GMs fluff wise or suggestions on another solid HQ?

GM In a babysuit is the best HQ option for Grey Knights sadly. Unless it was apocaylptic times and deamons were spewing everywhere there really wouldn't be more then one anywhere.
Is what is sadly.

You could always field 2 and say one of them is your GM's 'lieutenant' or something. Maybe a GK he's grooming for leadership.
I hear you on your reluctance to field them like that, though. It just feels...wrong doing that sort of thing with a unit type that's supposed to be so absurdly rare in-universe.
If you were doing some sort of big Apocalypse game against Daemons on the other hand...

Voldus and Draigo are not bad options but the GK codex is basically forced to run 1 build to actually compete.
Spam GMDK and strike squads.
If you are going for a fluffy GK army - You'd just be bringing a lot of terminators with whatever characters you want. Pick your poison.

Hey standard IG army these days has multiple company commanders when standard armies tend to have infantry barely for single company if that...
GW has forgotten any pretense of balance and fluff with armies. It's just more models to sell.

Just pretend they're normal Dreadknights and not Grand Masters or that they're Brother-Captain Dreadknights. That's at least a little better.

This is not an uncommon situation. In a vanilla Space Marine army in previous editions it was often advantageous to have multiple Chapter Masters and now it more beneficial to have multiple Captains than multiple Lieutenants. It is mildly annoying but remember that the name in the unit's datasheet doesn't necessarily have to be the same as their role in the context of the fictional universe. In this instance for example the another Grand Master can be just a particularly skilled Brother-Captain.

Exactly; a unit's datasheet name isn't the same thing as the unit.
My Regimental Commander, Lord Marshal Katerina Malinenko, uses the Inquisitor rules (though she is not a psyker), since her Household Guard don't really exist in the guard codex (a ton of dudes with halberds and 4+ armour from the Solar Auxilia list in 30k) and Acolytes get both power weapons and Bodyguard.
That doesn't mean she suddenly becomes Inquisitor Malinenko. I have considered running her as a Company Commander from the IG codex, but then what to do with her halberdiers is a mystery...

That seems like an excellent choice for a unit of Crusaders, to me...

I considered it but should they really all have 3+ invulnerable saves? They don't have shields.

Heck, Grey Knight fluff-wise you shouldn't even field them as an army 98% of the time either. Don't worry about it.

Hey folks thanks for all your help!
I think I will use multiple GMs and just call them something else in my army. After reading your comments, I guess there really are tons of instances of this sort of thing!
Cheers and thanks again!
