Came across a decent bit of Lego in the attic at Xmas and got thinking about making some scenery out of it.
Specifically a load of the old medieval castle stuff.
Found two of the old pirate ships too which gave me Orky gunboat ideas

Anyone ever used it / tried it?

I have. The plastic holds paint well but it's a lot of work to make them not look like Lego blocks. I'd say experiment with some small builds first (like 8-10 blocks total) to model and paint. The biggest challenge will be grinding the blocks down to make them flat. I recommend a standard sized file.

Lots of these would cover up the nodes though no?

They will but if you're going for a castle look it doesn't look as good.

Before you start slicing at the Lego in your attic check out how much they are worth as some of the older Lego sets sell for crazy money.

With some modelling goup like Vallejo sell you could use Lego bricks as a starting point, especially with a medieval look as it will naturally be uneven if you go for the coarse sand stuff.

Rather try to sell those older sets of ships and castles since they are rather expansive and buy yourself real miniature scenery.
