So I've mostly settled on the following scheme for my Necrons, but I'm sort of lacking a good weapon colour.

I plan to keep the red on the rings on the barrel and the rear box is going to be a glowing red as well (as opposed to white where its simply unpainted in the above example).

However the problem is that the dark bronze gun just doesn't "fit" or pop as much as I would like. Esp when combined with red it just sort of blends in too smooth. So I'm trying to think of a general colour for the main body of the gun that would work to keep it contrasty.

I've already considered using black to pick out details (eg the sight on the top and the claw ends of the muzzle), but I think another colour separate to the bronze/gold/silver that I've got going already would be best.

Try a dark wash across the weapon then edge highlight up the bronze and glaze in the OSL around the circles. That's what I would do.

It amazing what a good dark tone wash will do to make something stand out.

Crag - I did consider that, but I think it would look odd to have a very "clean" warrior with a very dirty gun. Esp in a futuristic setting; to me if the warrior is clean then the weapon should be too.

CoW - I did consider a simple dark wash like nuln oil or agrax earthshade, though wasn't sure if it would be enough. I might just give that a try and see how it goes. Also what do you mean by OSL?

I've tried black, but it requires very good edge highlighting to get it to look right, and right now I think that I've just not got the brush control to really edge something like the gun easily to get that effect I desire. I'm likely going to use black on large things like machines and transports and the like.

I vote this. Black guns all the way. The red will set off nicely on a black gun too.

Its just a trooper, so worst case scenario it's a little off, so what?
But likely if you give them all black guns you'll push yourself to practice and by the time you've done them all you'll be an edge highlighting pro.

I am with the black suggestion ! Also while at it layers of Merchite Red + Blood Red on the front tube will bring everything together nicely!

Sucker for GREEN colored Necrons myself so can't believe I am giving this advise accordingly.

Get it painted up though. It's a scientific fact that unpainted models die quicker than painted one's.

If it's highlighting Black you want to do, you might want to check our our Slate Grey paint at INSTAR.

It's a small shade up from black and perfect for highlighting black areas
