Well done. I shall have to check you out at some point.

One piece of feedback is that your sample models really aren't that great.
I just followed your link on my phone and the full screen was met with a rather chalky looking genestealer.
Possibly not the best first impression when you're claiming that your paints 'make it easy to paint your models leaving a high quality finish that stands out on the table'.
I think you need to fork out some serious cash for some good commission work and photography to show your product in its best light or just leave out any painted models altogether.
At the very least have them clearly labelled as 'community artworks' and get them off centre stage for a while.

I'd really just like a page of swatches to pick from if possible.

Feedback is always good and noted

When you say "swatches", do you mean like what is on the INSTAR Paint, Metallic and Vintage pages?

I think he means pictures of the actual paint on a relatively large flat surface - i.e. what you'd find at a paint store for comparing paint tones.

Yeah.
Just all of your colours close to each other on one page.
An overview like that is far more useful to be able to make direct comparisons.
The jpeg paint splotches you have on the existing pages is fine, I just want to see them altogether.
Just type 'paint chart' into Google images.

Ahhhh I see, Weirdly we had taken that page down as we were having a small issue using a picture but on tablet and mobile devices it was impossible to see, If we get it sorted we could put it back.

As for the close together part, the program used for the store won't put them right next to each other if we created a separate page for all the colours, it would just keep them apart as on the existing pages.

If the product is a success we can probably move things forward a bit more and we are planning to get a physical swatch book made up to include with our deliveries, however we've only just dipped our toes in the water

It could be me not looking hard enough, but one thing I cant find is the difference between Matte and Sheen bases.

I assume there is one, or there wouldnt be a choice, and, more importantly, which do I want so I match GW paints?

Fictional

Very good question and one we are slowly working on!

The difference between Matte and Sheen is how shiny it is, if you want a wet look for chaos daemons or genestealers for example then you would want sheen, for everything else you would need a matte base, this is what GW paints are.

We are slowly getting comparison pictures together, it takes time however!

I hope that helps

Dakka used to have a paint range comparison chart. I wonder what happened to it.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

It’s still there but my INSTAR Paint won’t be on there (yet!), but our paints are near 99% matches to all the GW base paints and some Layer paints (excluding metallics) so if you switched from GW to INSTAR, there’s a high chance you won’t notice the difference between the two.

We do have 2ml samples that you can buy which contain enough paint to do one model so you can try before you decide to switch over.

Seconded. There should be a picture with all the different bottles.

Also, the colour conversion page is quite hard to read. I understand the colors are arranged by color family. It would be great if you had the choice to order them like that, but also in alphabetical order (both by GW's color alphabetical order, or yours). Also, you could add a little colored dot on each line, it would make it much much faster to find a color.

There is a picture of the bottles, but it's on the main page, not the store page, in the news section.

All very good points and we have just addressed them

STG

The bottles are LDPE Bottles in 100ml, 50ml, 20ml, 10ml, 5ml and 2ml sample sizes, they give really good control when dispensing paint from them through the tiny dropper spout and being LDPE means they are fully recyclable, just wash the bottle out and throw it in the plastic recycling bin (Because we care )

fresus

We've changed the colour conversion page, while the system won't allow us to put a coloured dot before the name, it has now been put in alphabetical order and clicking on the INSTAR Paint name will take you straight to that colour instead of going back and forth between the pages. Thank you for pointing this out as we didn't notice this issue first time round and another reason why we love the community so much because you guys care and give us valuable feedback

Once we're more established we can revisit this page and make it into something truly special

H

We've now added an about page to the store for two reasons, one, not everyone will go to the main website, two, the main website is due an overhaul soon and a major update since we have been spending so much time on the store, it has been a little neglected recently so we've decided to rebuild it in a similar style to the webstore.

Because your a smaller business running out of a web store, and because computer screens can be inconsistent at best in showing color accurately, do you have any plans to produce a small color chip sample pamphlet people can order to see the colors accurately before placing an order?

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Funnily enough I had raised this point in an earlier thread about computer monitors and mobile screens making colours look different, we are working on a swatch book or some kind of similar item that we can add to parcels or even deliver by itself in the post. I agree that it would be much more handy so you can see the colours and hold it next to a model etc.

But for now, the colours you see will be 98-99% accurate to the citadel colours it matches.

I understand why you have conversion information on its own page, but why not include that info on the pages for the individual paints?

Probably because of copyright issues. I can see GW giving him a lot of problems if he were to put that information on his page.

Power Elephant is right Wasteland, the last thing I want is GW coming down in their drop pods issuing me with cease and desist letters, it’s bad enough dealing with a troll at the moment!

The conversion page shouldn’t cause too many issues but to save time, i’ve made it so that by clicking on the name you are taken straight to the paint it matches, it’s a shame I can’t put the price comparison on there though, I had some ask what the difference in price was between a GW “Get Started” kit was and my paint, simple answer was for £20 to GW got you 13 3ml paints, £13 got you 13 5ml versions of the same paint from INSTAR and neither price included delivery at that point!

Fair enough, I just honestly don't see how having that information on a different page of the website offers any greater legal cover. Especially considering that the biggest part of the Chapterhouse lawsuit that GW lost was the issue of whether other companies could mention GW products by name when describing their own items.

On another note, while I remember you mentioning somewhere that you're going to be redesigning the website, right now there's no link from instarpaint.com to the actual store, and the page still mentions "We look forward to bringing our product to the market hopefully as early as next year"
Probably worth fixing those straight away rather than waiting for a whole new website.

That’s a very good point and one I intend to change very quickly!

It may not provide any greater legal protection but then since GW can’t copyright shades only colour names, i’m not selling the paints under the GW names so all i’m doing is saying which colour it matches. Nothing wrong with that as far as I can see from a legal perspective

At the moment no and while there were plans to introduce some later, it has been mentioned so much since we opened the store that we're moving our plans forward, we will need to look through the range to make up some good bundle packs, we'll post another update soon regarding bundle packs and what we've put together
